Icelandic Chickens

hahaha, you guys are all so funny.

I have been having trouble staying online, and can only post about half the time. I don't know what's going on. Anyway, I have enjoying your banter. hahahaha

My hatched finished with, oh... I think about 67 or something around there.

These are from my Olive Egger pen. It has a Lavender Ameraucana cockerel over Marans, Miss Olive, and Ameraucanas. SOOOO, they all have the Lavender gene. I got blues, blacks, and Lavenders.

6 Barred Rocks from Cyn (speckledhen)....

The brooders..... 29 New Hampshires....

Delawares and the others..............

Wow, Kathy, what a colorful bunch of chicks!! I was one under on my guess for Dar's and Mary's hatches but 6 under on yours....but then you had 6 times as many eggs as they each did!! Congrats!
I saw on our weather radar last night that a huge green and orange blob was down in your neck of the woods.....was that the problem with the connection? Whatever it is...I hope it gets straightened out soon...we love hearing from you!

Oooooooh Kathy, it's a good thing I don't live by you. You'd never miss a few chicks, since I've now turned to a life of crime.

BTW, do your BR's ever go broody? Cuz my Dusty is the most submissive thing ever, but when she's on the nest laying her egg, she's meaner than a snake! (as in draws BLOOD mean)

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that...but we all have to decide what is best for ourselves. Our chickens should never make us feel overwhelmed, just over joyed!! Best wishes for those you keep. Kathy has some beautiful breeds and if you have to chose, any of hers would be great to have.
Well said and I agree. Best wishes with your flocks!

Thank you! I do have other chickens from Kathy, my favorites are the New Hampshires, they have such wonderful dispositions. I also have some Delawares and Barred Rocks from her. I have Black Austrolorps from another source, which I cannot re home because those are the ones DH wanted and since he pays the feed bill .....

Hi All

Another addition to Jake's Saga, not to be confused with Egil's or Nyal's Sagas !

Deep snow, some on the Alcan has prompted me to hold up on the Alaska move, and since the VA said I was good to go I am going to go back to MI to sit out til breakup time which will be late April.

As of right now I plan to leave here this Tues morning, and head back to moderate North Central MI to my son place. So, I will be taking all 3 of the Fab Featherd ones, and we shall see, there will be one beautiful large white feathered one available to a lucky Mi Icelandic breeder, unfortunately I can not in good heart take him with his SC. He IS a beauty, I wish he was RC.

The dark one is also developing beautifully, red cape, blondish back with deep black chest and colorful wings and a very nice dark tail and a nice RC. He is a keeper.

The smaller splash white is for a pet home, quite rough feathered but has a RC, and smaller then I would keep , and very unroosterlike in behavior, has never crowed, although it has managed a couple croaks, and has never perched.

The others are doing wonderful.

My Isi Isison is also available, looks just like his Dad, Marys Isi, but with it a SC that got nipped a couple times here, so he has to stay.

The hens are all doing very well, a couple motled with some darker feathers here and there, all are laying very well.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

Chicknappers are actually welcome here, Kelly.

Yes, my Barred Rocks do go broody. So do my New Hampshires, Marans, Wheaten Ameraucanas, Jersey Giants, Easter Eggers, and any other breed here that drinks water.

I think it must have been the weather. We have satellite and it goes down with any kind of weather change, I think.

I had help and counted the chicks. I actually hatched 71. One Del drowned in the water dish, so I am down to 70 now. I gave a few chicks away, and will be shipping alot of these in a few weeks. Couldn't ship as day olds, because it was a Friday. Poor timing on my part.
