Icelandic Chickens

I'll bet they were as good or better than today...the shippers knew how important these chicks were to the families that were receiving them. Also, the "hatcheries" were smaller and closer to the customers than today so traveling distance probably was less.

Agreed, I remember getting chicks 45 years ago in the mail and when we'd order 50 pullets, they would send 4 or 5 extra just in case... and normally we'd only have 1 or 2 die in transit. When I think of how inexpensive it was back then I'm amazed... of course... all money went alot further even though we earned much less.

Hey Kathy, your signature line is looking a lot like a blog website! You should go for it. Try Wordpress, it's easy to set up and they have great templates. You could blog at work!

I thought about it. BUT....... I have nothing interesting to say.

Oh, I'm sure you could find something to say! The question is....when are you going to have the time....with work, a gazillion eggs to hatch, helping all of us here figure this new site out..............you are already one busy lady!!

Maybe I could quit my job. hahaha If I cut down my flock, I actually could quit! I work to pay the expenses of my hobby.

1½ more years til retirement. Mike has always said he would retire at 60. (He already has enough years in, that he could retire now, if he wanted to). That will be June of 2013. He works on the Railroad, and they have their own retirement plan (not Social Security). When he retires, he gets a check and I get a check also. Maybe I will blog then. haha

My blog is my posts on BYC. I had to cut down on the threads I frequented, as I couldn't keep up. I just check in once in awhile to see how they are going. I also frequent some other places that I like to keep up with, too. Just not enough time in a day...........

Quote: I removed my subscriptions to alot of thread and just check my "I Posted" list for updates on those......otherwise my Inbox was always full of subscription email notices! The sun is shining today, high only in the 20s though! I'll try to get some pictures later. Have a great day!!

Man I am having a bummer of a day. I dropped the lid of the Brinsea on an egg and smashed it. I don't know why tabletop incubator manufacturers don't make it easier to remove the lid! I have to shove a fingernail into the Styrofoam of the Hovabator to lift that one. The Brinsea top is too wide for arthritic fingers to grasp. So now I am trying to save a baby in a smashed shell with a bleeding membrane. It probably wasn't ready to pip until tomorrow and now it is half out.
