Icelandic Chickens

Jake, I'm sorry to hear your neighbor has a complaint about the roosters. I am thankful my neighbors haven't said anything about mine. I hope it doesn't deter you from staying in MI though!

Sleep first, there'll be time later for pics!

for a great hatch!!
This is just from three hens for the last 9 days. Yesterday when I went into the coop to get eggs there were three. As I reached down to get them the rooster flogged me again.

Hatched 13 Icelandics and 12 FBCM today.

SWEET!

Wow, that is a lot of eggs from just 3 hens!

That will surely hatch enough pullets for my roos.

Had a visitor yesterday, grandson of the lady next door, says the roosters wake her. His problem is that this is zoned farm area, so chickens are legal, but its still a bad cloud. I am just here temporary I told him, whether we stay in MI or go north, I'd say its 60/40 towards going north.

I don't know if it's because they are my roosters or not, but they don't bother me anymore. I hear them start crowing around 5AM, roll over and go back to sleep. Maybe that's what your neighbor needs to do! LOL!

Good morning all!

Jake, sorry about the complaint. I hate it when someone in the country complains about it. I do try to keep my rooster numbers low because when they get started on a crow-off the noise can be a bit much. The only complaint I have had is from my own husband! Today I am re-homing and Icelandic with very bad mating manners. He and a look-a-like twin gang up on the hens together and they are brutal. I kept the least offensive of the two but will be watching for an improvement in his behavior. With the evil twin locked in my garage, this morning I saw him clucking at a hen to show her some scratch. I hope he remains a keeper because that gives me three roos to 21 hens and all are distinctly different in color and pattern.

Sadly the two little Barnevelder boys that Lukka hatched will be leaving today too.

Off to make my delivery. Will check back in later.

Have a great morning.

Mary

It was fate, really. That's how Laura ended up with Icelandics in the first place!

Off to work.............. bye.
If that is what had happened, then that is how I got into the Icelandic breed, when Laura offered me Icelandic eggs to help me rebuild my farm. :) Yay for Kathy being not careful when sending the chicks to Hillbilly Hen! :woot I just love them! :love

You're a good family to have, thanks !

I told him we'd be out of here in a couple of months, and this is zoned a farm area, and chickens are farm animals. In a week or so a couple of the roosters are leaving anyhow so thats cuts the crowers down.

If I go north my son will be staying here, I wish he could c ome, he is great company on a trip. But he has a house here, very nice, that he wants to sell then he may well come north, he likes such things.

Moderate weather here, and sun is shining,

Life is good and better with Icelandic Chickens !

What does she thinks she's up to?! She'll be 5 months old on the 24th!! I hope she was avoiding the cockerel since it was their morning to be inside....but her comb is getting pinker and she sure growled at me when I moved her to check for eggs!!
