I made the lightbox as describe here on BYC. I put the chicks in and they kinda go crazy running around at first. Then I put the camera down on the front right side, turned on, ready to go, hopefully with the lens cover off! I gather the babies up and line them up holding them with both hands and talking to them. They are directly under the light where it is warm so they like that. I slowly move my hands away and pick up the camera. Moving too fast startles them and I have to start over. If one steps forward I gently push it back in line. I am talking to them all the time and eventually they just stand there while I shoot. I don't do too much at a time and stress them. Today the little ones were sliding on the construction paper so it was a really quick shoot. I only took about eight pics. I handle my chicks all day long so they are used to the annoyance.

I keep comin' back to look at the picture .... It really reminds me of Forest Gump's saying about the box of chocolates .... You just never know what you're gonna get! Look at the variety there, nothing the same!

Do you remember the TV show, The Monkees??? When they all sing that song "Here we come, walkin' down the street" and their legs are all intertwined, walking along??????????Doesn't that picture remind you of the Monkees singing and walkin to their theme song???????????

Ok, it is probably too soon to think this and surely too soon to report this but I think Lukka may be broody! Sigrid said she was broody before they were shipped to me and they broke her broodiness. Yesterday I noticed she was lined up like the batter who's "on deck" in baseball every time someone else was in the nest box. She spent most of today in there and eventually laid an egg. Interestingly, my normally sweet roo Orri attacked me every time I went near the coop today. He flogged my ankles to the point that one is swollen. Michael went down and caught him for me and I carried him around like a baby for about a half hour while the whole flock watched. Someone suggested that technique for putting a rooster in his place and establishing yourself as the top Alpha.

Lukka nearly tore a hole in my arm when I tried to take the egg out from under her.

So tonight Michael went down to lock things up and reports that Lukka is flattened out and sleeping in the nest box! She has never done that before. She and Orri are an item so I wonder if he knows she's broody and was protecting his woman? Exciting!
