I hope you got some pullets in there!

A couple of our Icelandic chickens out enjoying the spring weather today.

Starting to save eggs for the incubator. Hopefully we will have better success than we had with shipped eggs last year. The trip to Alaska through the Postal Service seems to be a pretty rough journey.

Well the good news is no cracks or busted eggs, the bad news is 9 detached air cells and the other 7 I think are OK. Seriously disappointed in the PO. Guess I am going to fire up my third incubator just for these cause my other 2 have turners and they both have eggs in them that need turned.

Letting them sit till tomorrow night outside of the incubator and then I am going to put them in and hope for the best.

I hope you have success! We had a pretty battered shipment last year with cracks and many detached air cells. Managed to get a few of them to hatch. I think that shipments up here take two or three separate airplane rides, which I understand is very hard on hatching eggs. Hopefully it was all ground transport for your eggs and you will have a decent hatch.

I was so hopeful too cause I just candled a shipment of BLRW eggs and out of 16 eggs shipped I have 13 growing! 2 were clear and 1 had a blood ring. I was so proud of the PO on that box. Guess you get both the good and the bad though. My own EE eggs are 13 for 13. My longtail mixed eggs are slowly dwindling too though and they were shipped. They had 5 of 14 with detached/broken air cells and only 1 of the detached is developing, I have one that is iffy. The 9 good ones are under a broody hen and she is not very friendly right now so I am not fighting with her tonight. So I am, already 11 of 14 on those.

Trying to keep my hopes high for the icelandics, really wanted these. I will be so happy if I get the 7 that I think are OK to hatch. Heck, if I get 3 to hatch after seeing the way the PO handled them I will jump for joy. If that happens though let's pray for one roo and two hens! LOL

Note to self: Never move to Alaska if THAT is spring.
