Icelandic Chickens

Notafarm thats cute ! And smart of her !

I far prefer broodies, for one thing its a survival trait, but it also makes the chicks smarter on learning how life goes on. Incubating can give us chicks more used to handling, so its a tradeoff.

Heres hoping you all have a great hatching spring. We have had days in the 60s with sun and nights in the 40s so all of the spring flowers are popping up and the trees are leafing out. Its a great time of the year !

I don't think I'd want to reach in and touch her Mary. She looks serious.

My Icelandic hen got off the nest yesterday and she was on the roost last night. So apparently, she's not ready yet.

I have, as of right now, four Icelandic hens raising chicks. The two oldest clutches hatched April 12. Here is how one is handling them now that they are bigger and it is warmer...
chicks in one nest....

Momma above them in another nest....

That counts, she's ON them..........................just a little metal, air, straw between them.

So we had a presentation to the town and school board tonight! There is nothing more amazing than to have a group of 20 adults so interested in a breed of chickens. I prepared my history and we captivated them! Soooo good
