Icelandic Chickens

I am down to two pullets now. One of my young barnyard mix roos got overly aggressive and I found my third Icelandic pullet dead a couple days ago. I think I will try to find some more hatching eggs. I have checked on Facebook and found one person in Kansas with Icelandics, but live nearly four hours away. I know Maldwin is in Nebraska but I don't know if his are laying yet.

Does anyone know of someone in Kansas close enough to Salina, KS to drive and get eggs, or a close source where the shipping won't be as lengthy? I really want to get a flock of Icelandics going and any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

Loving this thread!!! Does anyone know if there are any Icelandic chicken keepers in Illinois or Iowa?
I'd like to welcome Kathleen to the wonderful world of Icelandics!!

Today we met and there are now three pullets and a cockerel making their home with her and her husband near Peoria.
I am happy that there are two more Icelandic lovers in Illinois that are excited about protecting and promoting them.
I hope to hear and see how the adventure goes!

Coop Cop please, before you get any new pullets/hens, get rid of that rooster first!. There is never a good reason to keep a bad rooster. There is a glut of roosters looking for homes, many of them very good quality and well behaved- , and reasonably priced or even free.

Rest easy, arrangements have already been made for it to attend freezer camp with two of its friends this Wednesday. For now it is separated from everyone else. I won't take an aggressive roo on my place.

It's going great so far!!! We are just so excited to have Iceladics now!!! Thanks again!!! We did have one funny thing happen to us on the way home, though. I wanted to check on our new additions and I needed to grab a few things from my classroom, so we stopped at school. We discovered two eggs so my hubby opened the box to get them and one of the hens flew out and onto the roof of the school!!! We panicked a little but kind of just stood and watched her, not sure what to do. A janitor came out- boy, was he surprised! We tried throwing some snow towards her, but we didn't want her to go any higher or get more spooked. Then we tried throwing treats on the edge of the roof, hoping she might be lured down. Of course, neither worked. Finally, her feet must have gotten cold because she flew down and we were able to stalk her and grab her. Good thing Icelandic hens have longer tails! After we got her back in the box, she didn't make a peep or even rustle her feathers much. We got home with all four birds without further incident...thankfully!

Red,  just like we are not surprised you are a "chicken wrangler."

Ya gotta see it to believe it, I guess. I am very well acquainted with sliding over fences, under bushes, through thorns, behind sheds, and into ivy so thick my chickens stand there and cackle at the sight of the dumb human.

By the by, 9/13 eggs developing.
