Those of you that live in cold climates will understand just how happy I am today.

I have been watching the little green strands secretly hiding under all the dead brown grass in my yard. It's been warm and dry for weeks, which has allowed all the snow to melt and the ground to begin to thaw.

Yesterday it rained

Thanks Jake! I thought it turned out pretty good... There's three odds and ends pullets going with the coop to Sarah's... She's excited... If I was to build a coop like this for me... I'd need an elephant to move it around since it would be something like 30 x 90...

I am thinking of building a totally enclosed portable run out of pvc & wire that would be 16 x 16... it's on the to do list..

Still nothing from the PO... I'm glad this box was from Kathy... if it was from someone on ebay, I would seriously doubt that it had actually been shipped!! When it does show up... how short of a time does everyone think I should "rest" the eggs? I figure the faster I start incubating the better but doubt a few more hours will matter..

It's a beautiful day in Idaho!! Isn't green grass great Michelle?? BTW Mary, lawn mowing is why I have boys..

Although, with this new bigger place, they might get to sharethe joy at home too.

I work for the local government and I'm a permit technician, so if you want to build something you get to come see me. There's a guy that builds metal buildings and pole barns, and his wife brings in all his applications and does all the paperwork part. So as I'm talking with her and processing her applications it occurs to me that we are planning a new coop this year. So I asked her for a card, and stated it was because we were planning to build a new chicken coop this summer and I'm researching the most functional building for what we're doing.

She hesitates a little, then says "Well we build pole barns, hangers and garages but we can do smaller structures too. (looking very skeptical) How big were you thinking?"

Probably 20 X 40. We were thinking 16 X 32 but it keeps growing so realistically I think we need to just go big and get it over with.

She kinda went

for chickens? that's a big chicken coop (shaking her head) That's a lot of building for chickens.

I was multi-tasking ( which is code for helping 3 people at a time and covering phones) so we didn't get to chat. As she was leaving she looked me in the eye from the door and kinda went "chickens?" and was still smiling (actually I think she was laughing) as she went past my window and waved bye.

Glad to know my addiction is entertaining the locals.

The small joys we are able to bring into peoples hum drum lives does make everything more worthwhile doesn't it??

Apparently when I am excited about something I get a little passionate about it and when I tell people about it... it comes out in my voice, face, actions etc. My mother and sisters were here a couple of weeks ago for a baby shower and I was telling them about the Icelandics that I had coming.. Let's just say that they all chuckled a bit but my DW was laughing so hard she cried..

Can I help it if I get excited?
