Icelandic Chickens

Wow...only one roo? LUCKY.

DS#1 was up in Paradise Valley, not far from Laree's and got stung by a bark scorpion.

OUCH.
TX: stay calm, Wash thoroughly, Ice for first two hours, Ibuprofen and rest for 72 hours.
Unless you are under 14 or over 60 and then you go to a hospital for anti-venom within the first two hours.

We've lived here 24 years and I knew none of that. you live and learn.

Looks right to me Michele but I defer to Kelly for final analysis. I really am horrible at gender sexing. What I can tell you is that they are beautiful!

Mahonri, you creeped me out with the scorpion story. Now I am going to have to wear elbow length Kevlar gloves with my knee high boots. Egads.

Michelle, What a beautiful flock you have.......yes, the turkey too!! Are they all the same age?
I think you have the genders correct. From what I've seen with my Icelandics, the boys get true color in their combs and wattles at a young age. Your ratio of boys to girls is what I hope for from the eggs I got from Mary!!

Mahonri, Thanks for the info on the scorpion.....hope I never need it...but good to know. Is it the same for all scorpions or are some more poisonous than others? I hope the DS recovers with no problem.

Mary, The rooster on the farm logo is the perfect touch....represents your place very well!

I am still giddy over my new arrived babies, if they could be worn out by looking they'd all be goners now ! Thankfully, some are starting to like being held and petted.

Today more chicken house and run work, hope to have it finished sunday, except for little touches, tomorrow a needed rest day, it all has to be as there is an active fox den just barely a hundred yards up the grade from the chicken house.

When I looked in this morn Blau and the Contessa were up in the rafters, and Issison was on the low roost with one of the pullets hatched from Marys eggs, he is starting right in picking his girlfriends ! The other five were in their corner, but I am hoping that they will be on the roosts very soon.

Life is good !

Mary I am getting addicted to your pair of Emus, I may well have to get several. They are neat birds. Maybe I can do a mix of Turkeys and Emus in a yard, but the Turkeys I'd like are flyers. We'll see, if I dont get them maybe some Narragansetts which I also really like.

Beautiful morn here , but no rain in two weeks, getting like August not June. Hand water the garden time.

Enjoy, keep the pics coming, love them all, and I promise I soon will have some posted.

Michelle.......I think you have it mostly right. Last picture, the blondie in the back, I'd have to see a side body shot to tell. Could go either way.

The other Mary......beautiful pictures of momma and baby.

Jake.......Mary is a bad influence on me. She KNOWS I want turkeys badly, and she tells me to look at a turkey site for these varieties I've never heard of. OMG they are so pretty, now I really want them. Or maybe I'm a bad influence on her, cuz she now wants turkeys too.

I don't know if she can fit a turkey on her logo though.

For the local folks, if you know of someone that can take two ragdoll quotes from my friends Sharon that has cancer, please click on the link in my signature....Thanks

I hope your son is ok, makes me glad I live in Alaska where we don't have bugs or snakes, we don't even have ticks or fleas

Just mosquitoes & grizzlies, and dragonflies and butterflies

I usually have to wait till they crow or lay an egg.

Yes, the turkey hatched and brooded with them so he/she thinks they are all the same

I need to get new pics of the younger ones I hatched from Kathy's eggs, they have some amazing colors too, very different than this batch.

And I agree, the logo for Mary's farm is a great representation of her menagerie.

Thanks Jake, I look forward to seeing your flock in the near future.

I will have to get you some better shots of the blondie, that is one I am really curious about.

I love my turkeys, I have 2 more that hatched with Kathy's eggs and 6 more that hatched without any chickens

But I have more chicken eggs in the bator as we speak, and some of them are Icelandic
