Icelandic Chickens

Yep, that's the same chick on the left in all the pics (except for the solo one of BWAm, Puffy Davis)!!

Most of the time I would not be happy to hatch a boy but this guy is from Mary and I wanted another son from Isi (of course, this is conjecture because this chick may be his grandson) to go with Audun!! ..............now I hope that Lil Sis is indeed a girl!!!!

for you.

I moved the group of 31 Icelandic chicks outside today. Well, not exactly outside. I mean outside of my house! They are in Nella brooders in the storage garage. I dropped one of the chicks, during the move. It landed side ways on a concrete block, striking its neck on a corner of the block. I don't think it will make it, but I am trying to nurse it back. Dang fumble fingers. Makes me feel so bad.

Yeah to moving them out of your house.

to dropping one. I have had chicks fall out of the brooder and my hands too but no mortalities. I hope the little one makes it. I am sorry that happened.

I sorted the young ones today, one pen for my picks and one for rehoming, will be about 16 of them, I am keeping five of the older ones, and 11 of the younger ones, makes it easier to move, and the younger are separated now to make it easier for someone to make picks, there are also two roos of the older ones, one that is a double for The Contessa and one white splash. And one dark pullet that is a clone of two others I am keeping. Decisions, decisions !! It looks like I will be moving in mid august.

Life goes on, and it is good

I am working on moving my two ducklings outside. They are stinking up my office big-time! I have a little coop I am turning into a duck house and cutting the legs down so it isn't so high. They are only using a 25 watt red party bulb for heat so I will put that out there for them. I am fencing off a small section of grass around their house to keep the chickens out. We have named them Donald and Daisy. I put them out in the yard for awhile to play this morning but Skye became obsessed with them and trying to mother them. They were afraid and kept running from her looking for me. Broodies, go figure!
