Icelandic Chickens

I am moving some of mine outside this weekend, just a couple days shy of six weeks. Ones I am for sure keeping, two roos, and some pullets, then spreading the others out more.

Sunny and cool here today, MI June. Will finally need to hoe the garden, progress, sorta.

I have several nice mottled ones, a roo and a pullet for sure. One very large roo, he for sure is staying. Nice gold striped cape, dark body, it will be fascinating to watch him develop. Ditto two wheaten pullets. Have 3 white splash roos, besides Isison. I may keep one of them, at this rate I will have two roos for each pullet !

I need to take pictures of my chickies.

Dar, how are the little ones doing with your broody?

I contributed 2 pictures already!

Although getting an icelandic in the calendar could be good PR for the breed....

She's still got 5 of the 6... a rat got one right in front of my eyes. We have since been poisoning rats...

They can fly already, it's hilarious to watch.

1 brownish black one, two blondes and two light chipmunks... the dark chipmunk is the one the rat got.

I just locked down 40 Icelandic eggs and I have a pip! When I candled them this afternoon there were about four where I could see a chick clearly kicking around and ready to get out. I have seen movement before but never anything like this. The pipped egg may be one of those. I can hear it peeping from across the room. I am excited about this hatch. Starting with 52 eggs and having 47 make it to lockdown is amazing for me. I am nervous to see how many hatch.

Oh, and I went down to the barn tonight and I think I have another Icelandic broody. If she is still sitting tomorrow I will be surprised, and delighted to give her some eggs to hatch.

Love the pics Cedar post!
