Kathy, I know you asked Mary but here is what I've found with mine.......I have pics at four weeks that don't show crests and at six weeks that do...I also have at least one pullet that I thought wouldn't have a crest at eight weeks that now is showing some signs of a small crest. Remember that neither of my hens that my chicks came from have crests, but both roos have them.

Here is Kella as an example,
This pic was taken a four weeks, of the three chicks with their backs facing, Kella is the middle one. I couldn't tell for sure at this point she would have a crest.

This pic is the one Kelly saw and told me Kella was indeed a girl. Not much of a crest at this point but there were one or two feathers starting to look like at crest:

Kella at fourteen weeks...not a huge crest like some of Mary's, but a crest:

Of the 3 chicks of your eggs that hatched for me, one dark one, a roo, is crested, it was noticeable on him at a week old, he was small but since has more then caught up, of the ones from Mary, Speedy/Skjoltur is crested and that was noticeable at a few days, she now has a very good full crest, at about 9 weeks old. Still doing laps, wherever she is.

Of the five week old ones from Mary the ones that now have crests had them by the time they were 7-8 days old, I am wondering if these chicks just happened to all be from both parents having crests?

I do - 5th picture, center in the back. And a couple more look like they are working on crests.

Yes, the one with the eyeliner that goes beyond the ear. I believe it's also the first chick on the left in the last pic. Keep an eye on that one.

Still too early on crests. The obvious ones are obvious but there are late bloomers. As far as the New Hampshires, they are all beautiful pullets!

Someone did that to me once.
