Icelandic Chickens

Well, thanks to Dar, my glut of roosters has turned into a deluge.

After he left today, I spent a few minutes catching all the roos I could (those of comparable size) and tossing them in with Vindur and the other unfortunates. I felt bad for the group of bachelors (despite my numerous battle wounds) and gave them all the frozen treat buckets I had.

Kathy - thanks so much for posting those pictures of Kola's feet. I had thought that my English orp had bumblefoot, and twice I brought her in to do fix it. I squeezed and squeezed, but never got anything but blood. After the 2nd time, I decided I wasn't going to dig on her foot anymore. Your picture confirms for me that it wasn't bumblefoot. Her foot has healed and she's walking normally again. I think she cut the pad of her toe on something.

Wasn't it just not too long ago that you said you didn't have any other broodies?

Hey, how is barn girl doing? And, was your bumble foot treatment successful?

Barn Girl is doing fine. She still has a little swelling in the toe. She's too fast for me to catch her and do a thorough exam but I may pull her off the roost tonight for that. Sorry about Kola. Both feet huh? On the bottoms? I added a lower roost and another ramp up to it so they don't have to jump down as far. My floor is cement and, try as I might, they won't leave the shavings in the landing zone.

oh, good point. I'll have to take that into consideration with the new barn. Thanks!

YEOW! OUCH!! I took my hen to the vet who cleaned a foot like that up and then he wrapped it. She had to have Baytril antibiotic for a week also.

But I second Kelly, thank you for posting the pictures. It's nice to see what it looks like so I have a frame of reference.

Everybody else, pretty birds and cute chicks!!!

I thought about a PCN shot. I dunno, maybe I will still do that. It is suppose to be rainy here the next 3 days, so I am not gonna let her outside.
