I really can't help you Jake. I have so many that I just feed FlockRaiser after the chick starter. If I went to anything else I would have to mortgage the farm. The Icelandics but with winter coming they will eat more feed. I was thinking about switching to the Omega 3 feed for the layer coop this winter but haven't decided.

We just came in from hanging the black netting over the Layer and Isbar yards. OMG what a difference it makes. It practically fades away. After dinner I will post some pics of my coops without the netting.

Yea!!!! I got my first Icelandic egg today!!! Boy was she excited about it too! I never heard such a rucus as she put on! Now I'm thinking I have to find someone who is incubating in the winter because I would hate to eat such precious eggs! This new chicken addiction is going to be a hard one!lol

The mix I used to get actually cost me less then the commercial, even buying the components at the mill. I will try to find the list somewhere, I remember that it was corn, oats, barley and wheat with fishmeal , minerals and BOSS. I need to find the breakdown somewhere. I remember the fish meal was the pricey part.

What with everything else today I only got four holes dug, 18 to go.

Life is good and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !

Ok here are the pics.

Layer coop/Saloon on the right and Isbar coop/Jail on the left. Each yard has a small coop for grow outs or a broody. I am going to make a small outhouse to fit between the saloon and the baby coop to hold my coop cleaning tools and supplies. They used to hang on the fence but it looked sloppy.

Finishing the roof. He couldn't do it with the netting on.

Cutting down a weird branch on the fig tree. This will allow us to snug the black netting right up to the single trunk so they can't escape. Well, let me correct that. So it will be more difficult for them to escape. We left that branch sticking out because they Isbars like to roost on it but I hit my head on it twice so it may have to go or at least get cut back some more.

Maybe next time you come over we can sit and enjoy it on a clean deck without construction junk. Nikki stopped by today and planted two parsley plants in my silly little raised bed, pulled all the weeds, then came back two hours later and watered the parsley! She didn't trust me to remember since we were underneath 40 pounds of net. The deer are probably eating the parsley right now and I will have to run out and buy more before she finds out I didn't string the deer netting either. She's a good neighbor.
