Nice broodies Mike!

I love Lilacs, I wish there blooms lasted longer.

I saw something interesting doing chores this morning. The broody in the doe barn, got up to take care of her eating and drinking, etc…, while she was doing this another Icelandic hen guarded the nest, chasing away any other hens approaching. When the broody returned she let her pass and get back on the eggs and left the area. I had never seen this behavior before.

Mike, I love lilacs too! My daughter (married on May 17, 2009) used them in her wedding bouquet.
This is very interesting about your hens. I've never witnessed this in my flock, but I'm not out there very often to see what goes on so I miss a lot that happens out there. Are the two related?

Not really closely related, not hatch mates or anything like that. One I hatched here from eggs I received from Daron, the other came as a pullet from Hodges Farm. It was just interesting, I had never seen that before.

Mike, that is very interesting, indeed. I have a roo that will guard the hens when he knows they're laying, but I've never heard of a fellow hen guarding the nest. Hmmmm?

I wanted to share a picture of some of my flock enjoying a cool treat. Pictured in no particular order are Autumn, Sky, Reika, Flekka, and my Leghorn, Chelsea that hangs around with them.

Well, I am a glutton for punishment. I set twelve Icelandic eggs yesterday in my horrible still air incubator. I just got done with two batches of turkey eggs - two! - and not a single egg made it halfway through the process. The Icelandic eggs were just too tempting, though.
