Icelandic Chickens

Quote: There are 7 hatched, 8 left, at least one is externally pipped. I don't know if I can get a decent photo while they are still in the incubator.
Where is your Viking spirit?

Mlm- congrats!!! I am so jealous of your yellow baby! I want a white Icelandic!!! Hahaha! Mary- where did u get the Viking emoticon??? That's so cute!!

Ok- couple of developments. Corey saw there was an egg under the coop. We looked farther back and there were A LOT of eggs under there. 18. All Icelandic. Gah!!!! We pulled them out and opened one up to see if they were rotten, but it was ok. I put them in water and they didn't float, so I decided to maybe try eating them (I'm crazy like that

). Then I went into the coop to collect eggs and noticed that one of my Australorp hens was laying, so I sneeked out. When I checked back in, she was still in there. Checked later, sti there. Finally, I stuck my hand under her to fish out eggs, and she made this weird noise, jumped out but then jumped back in almost immediately. I finally realized she was BROODY!!! So I stuck all my newly found Icelandic eggs under her to see if any of them are viable. She nestled them under her right away and was still sitting when I just closed up the coop!!! Yay!!!

Once in a while, usually in winter when there is nothing going on, I'll cruise the free smiley stuff online and save a few for future use. I got a few Viking ones last winter and added them to my stash. I like to add a dash of color to my posts!!
