Oh no, I had a tragedy with the Icelandics today.
Two of my babies, the black one and the white spotted one with the cutest crest, got killed by something while I was gone at a wildlife rehab party. This was their first day out and they were in a little pen inside my fenced area in the backyard. I don't know the details yet, my mom just left me a note that they were "brutally killed". I'm so sad... I used to keep chickens out in that fenced area for months in pens and I didn't have predator issues, so I'm shocked that this happened so suddenly, during the day even.
I really loved those two that I lost, I'm so sad and having the usual guilt issues when a predator gets birds.
Only two left, one big pure white one and the slightly runty white one with black spots. I can't believe this happened... I really wanted a good little flock of four or five, and I just adored those two. They were the two that had crests, of course. I'm devastated that those two babies are gone...
Mary, if you rehome some of your Icelandics (as I believe you do?) if you'd be willing to let me buy two or three sometime so I will still have a nice little flock of Icelandics I would be very appreciative. I'm so disappointed that this happened.
EDIT: It turns out, of all crazy things my little seramas, also young, that I put in with them in the pen killed them. Well, that's just shocking... I had no idea this would happen. Gosh, this is so sad.
