Yeah, but how about the comb on the brown one in the lower right corner? And the white one under the roost facing the camera?

I wasn't gonna say a word, but you had to go and be a smarty pants!

Looks like you are going to have some gorgeous crests there.

Now about me:

I candled last night, and my 3 remaining eggs have babies rolling around.

The kids got to see it really well since the white shells make it so easy to candle. I can't wait to see them on New Years Day!

Only have 1 MF cochin egg left though, the other one is a blood ring.

Well, Little Miss Sunshine is at work early today spreading hope and encouragement to all of BYC!

I am so glad most of them were facing the wrong way, otherwise I may have no hope at all!

Or, they are all out playing in the yard right now. Maybe you could drive down and dash my dreams in person!

I'd have to bring the kids with me, they are out of school for Christmas break. I'll send them out to go play with the donkey's! That ought to keep them entertained.

I actually see quite a few pullets there, so all hope is not lost.

Project Free the Vikings continued today with work on the future coop in the barn. The free ranging Vikings will occupy the right end of the barn through the door with the window on the side. The pop door will be near the electrical panel.

We put in the roosts today. The floor area is 10x18 and we put three 10' roosts all at the same height at the back. Then we put a lower jump-up roost. It is removable to make cleaning easier. Please note that the roosts are level even though they don't look like it in the pictures. The board hubby is attaching has not been leveled yet! Our old barn foundation was not level so the new barn was built to fit it. Our contractor says it is off twelve inches in height from the right side to the left, which is the higher side. We love it anyway!

Here it is with the roosts in and the brackets installed to hold the jump up roost which is leaning against the back wall. I was afraid hubby would grab and cut it for something else and I cut it to fit perfectly for lifting out to clean..

I didn't get any pictures because it got too dark but we framed a wall just this side of the window edge. It goes all the way across the space essentially making it two rooms. I will cover the framing in chicken wire. We installed a screen door. That will confine the chickens to the back part of the coop and allow me to have an incubator/brooder room too! I wanted the wall to be covered in wire instead of plywood to let in light and ventilation but keep the chickens off the Brinseas! I will also have space in there for feed and maybe a small refrigerator for egg storage.

I am really excited and hope we can finish the interior tomorrow. We bought the last roll of fencing we need to finish that part of the project as well. A kind neighbor stopped by to voice her concerns about free ranging here. I explained about the Icelandics and told her what precautions we are taking but she still seemed distressed about it. I am still hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

I get some new pictures tomorrow.

It's looking great, Mary! They will love those high roosts, for sure. They always want to be as high as possible.

I put up a make-shift roost up high in the outside pen. They just love being up there. Their door to the inside is up high, and I have a ramp and platform to it. Rarely do they use the bottom of the ramp. I love watching them run and flap their wings!

You are moving right along! I can hardly wait to see it all !

What a sweet neighbor, to be concerned about the birds.
