Cute pics!

We have snow here this morning.

I have 11 chicks out from the New Years hatch and 2 more wellie's zipping now. Nothing from the MFC egg and an olive egger. I had to help one out last night (a different olive egger), it zipped all the way around but got glued in the shell. Didn't take much to get it out and it's fine now.

Another (bantam cochin) worked so hard to zip and I decided last night if it was still alive this morning, I would help it out. Poor thing was really cemented in there, took quite a bit of work to get it out. It has a deformity in it's beak (open on the front of the nostril area) so I'm not sure it's going to make it. (probably for the best, but I feel bad for the poor thing, such a fighter trying to get out)

The thing I don't get, why were these 2 stuck in the shell while others were zipping and popping out not gooey at all? I've had crusty chicks before, but they always seemed to be the last to hatch. I like hatching under a broody, it's so much easier!

My 3 Icelandics are cruising around like crazy, nosy little buggers! When I put the straw down to add water, they are right there checking things out! As far as the cochins go, I have 2 blacks split to buff, 1 buff split to black and the little black split to buff that's probably not going to make it.

Kelly, my last 4 to hatch (while I was sleeping), were like totally gluey and sticky. I'm surprised they even made it out! It is the increased humidity caused by the other chicks hatching or something .... not sure. I do believe it is higher humidity for some reason though.

Congratulations on your hatch, Kelly and Mary!

I sent some test eggs out and just got a report back that only 8 out of 30 were fertile. That's just above 25%! I do think things will improve for the Spring because Isi has been very active and all the little guys are trying. Poor blind Lucy!
