Icelandic Chickens

You might want to make sure your gate is always closed. You might be getting a mille fleur cochin roo dropped off!

No roos, no roos.

Note to self: No more winter hatching.

Happy Chooks, does that mean that the oreo color combo is specifically a sex link genetic trait? My one oreo hatched from Lyle Behls egg was a roo as well?

So much for me getting a spare mille fleur, huh?

So Kelly my friend is breeding calico cochin bantams, I know she hatched some that are more mille fleur. Did you want bantams for LF

Maybe, but who knows with the Icelandics genetics. Black is supposed to be dominant in chicken genetics, but yet look at the variety Kathy is hatching and she has a pure black hen. They just defy all the rules. I'm just noticing a trend here with Kathy's pictures of her Oreo chicks, they are all looking like males. Maybe Kathy can post one that looks like a female and give us all hope?

Nooooooo, Kelly is not breeding them.

Mary gave me some bantam cochins to hatch for the NYD hatch, along with some Icelandics. None of my mille fleur hatched, only 1 made it to lockdown and when I opened it after the hatch, it had died about 5 days or so prior as there was still a good amount of yolk sac. I hatched 1 buff barred split to black barred bantams and 2 black barred split to buff barred bantams. (I hatched a 3rd black barred, but it didn't make it)

But after the hatch, I became really concerned about the bantams doing well here as my run is not covered. (They are cuter than cute though!) I just began to worry that they would be hawk bait, so I gave them back to Mary. I was so sick and dealing with complications of an antibiotic, that I gave her back the Icelandics I hatched also. (along with the 2 olive egger chicks I promised her from my flock)

So of the NYD hatch, the only chicks I kept were 4 wellie chicks. If you know someone working on LF mille fleur, I'd be sooooo interested in hatching some. I just want a girl or 2. (or 3 to share with Mary cuz she wants one of everything
