Icelandic Chickens

Please ignore the poop in this picture but I am so proud of these babies I had to post the picture, poopy walls and all. I just moved them out of the brooder on Monday and they huddled in the floor right where the big girls would poop on them. Today when I opened the coop I found this:

The big one wasn't even in this group. It is two weeks older and has been living in the grow out coop with 8 buddies. I guess he decided to get brave with the babies.

Now I need to get Mahonri's eggs in the mail, don my HazMat suit and powerwash the heck out of that coop. This wet, wet winter has made such a disgusting mess of everything. Oh and of course I must attach a gratuitous baby emu picture.

I seriously just love these little guys, even in their awkwardness, you can still see they have so much potential!

Hi Mary

Those Baby Emus are much prettier then the adults, such a shame they have to grow up

When you get the walls done you can come and do the State of MI. All is snow and mud.

BTW, if you hadnt said the walls were poopy we would have thought you had knotty coop walls.

This is it! 3 emus for me! I want one, big, ugly, scary emu for every one little, nasty Jack Russell terrier that trespasses on my property! 3 JRT's, 3 Emus. My neighbor thinks that because the neighborhood dogs used this property for years when it was abandoned, that they still have rights to it. "They were here before you were!" What an idiot. The dogs should have written a check to the bank if they wanted the property so bad.

Will they stomp on the little mongrels? I love dogs, I have dogs, but I have zero tolerance for other peoples dogs being in my yard. I won't let my dog go to your yard, you really should keep your dog out of mine. Common courtesy, just being neighborly.

I have a Jack Russell in the backyard with the chickens, and my GLW rooster ( his name is Jack

) whups his butt when he gets out of line. Once, Duke (the dog) had really, really ticked the roo off, and when Jack was in the midst of stomping him, the dog went belly up and begged for mercy. Alas, Jack doesn't speak dog, so he just jumped on his ribs and kept going. I had to get the hose.

It was beautiful.
