Icelandic Chickens

Mary... you are NOT 62 years old. Is this the same Mary I met at the chickenstock last year???

Do you know who the dogs belong to?

...ahhh where were the donkeys? It is so scary to see this and know if it happens once it can happen again.Good luck -keeping out intruders!

I'm waiting on the eggs you sent -oh about 3 weeks ago!

Same Mary, a year older. The donkeys were in the pasture with the chickens. That may have been why the dogs stayed in the other pasture. Thankfully the gate between pastures was closed or I can only imagine the carnage. DH says he doesn't think the dogs would have hurt the chickens because they looked "scared."

Unfortunately, DH does not understand the threat posed by marauding dogs and he sides with the dogs and the dog owners, so I am sort of left on my own on this issue. I have asked him many times to browse the Predator forum here on BYC but he has declined. I said I was going to buy a paint ball gun tomorrow and he disagrees with that too. I think at least the neighbors would be on notice if their dog comes home with a blue rear end.

Does anyone know why type of dog this is? I am going to file a report with Animal Control on Monday but I don't know what breed it is. I want documentation so when the inevitable occurs.

Today I put two Coronation Sussex eggs that I got from Cheryl under each of my 2 broody Icelandics. Just wait till Lukka tries to sit on this!

I LOVE my Coronations! They are just beautiful and huge! You are gonna love them!

Oh, I am not planning to keep them. I just took everything in Cheryl's incubator! I am hoping she will have some semblance of her former life back soon and I can return them to their rightful owner.

Edited to Add, Kathy I rechecked the BR egg that I was worried about and it is developing!

I am jealous of your green grass, I have to shovel more snow out of the way tomorrow, the chickens won't walk through it to get from the pasture to the coop. It makes them nearly impossible to herd. Let your imaginations wander, it's a funny site to behold.

Oh Mary, I'm so sorry you have to deal with irresponsible dog owners.

I'm with Kathy on this one. I've considered a guardian dog for the pasture, it's too cold here for emu's. If a dog is unlucky enough to come visit when Tom or I am home, there will be a disappearance.
