Icelandic Chickens

This is hard for me to do because I have to swallow my pride to do it, but I am back. I was almost inconsolable last night because it felt as if I had not just given up talking to people about Icelandic chickens but I had abandoned real friends. I realized that I would miss this forum so much if I were to stay away for very long. Thanks to Kelly, Jake, and a whole lot of other nice people I am going to come back and try to cowgirl up when things get rough. To the people who were glad to see me go, sorry. Pretend there's an IGNORE button and use it when I post. I plan to use my imaginary IGNORE button as well. To the people who sent me PM's that they were withdrawing from the thread as well, please reconsider. We went a remarkably long time ( nearly 5,000 posts) without any issues.

So, that being said, back to business as usual. Kelly just left my house after picking up her Icelandic chickens. She was planning to take 3 but only took 2 after declaring most of the the others to be roosters. I guess I should be happy because she declared my freaks all to be girls, a Polish, olive egger, and frizzle cochin! My 3 Barred Rocks from Kathy have been designated a trio. So for a visit from Kelly, I came away relatively unscathed this time!

p.s. Good luck on the hatch Jake. I just had one lone Coronation Sussex egg that I got it from Cheryl hatch. As soon as this little one fluffs up enough to go in the brooder, the incubators are getting buried deep in the junk in the barn where I can't find them.

Lurker here...Mary, I'm glad you're back! I was wondering how I was going to be getting my Jack & Diane fix or my emu fix or even my Stella fix, not to mention all those Icelandics...just my $0.02!

For those wanting the Emu fix, they are HUGE! Well, okay, not HUGE, but huge compared to the last time I saw them. They'll be bigger than the goats in no time. They are so clumsy looking in their movements that you just look at them and go "awwww".

And for you that think I stole all Mary's pullets and left her with roosters.......wrong. I took 2 pullets and left her with 3 rooster and 2 pullets. These girls have no fear and are out in my run with my big girls. Maybe they can teach the welsummer pullet and roo that are twice their size how to be chickens. (they refuse to leave the coop - I literally have to throw them out)

So thank you so much for my Icelandic girls Mary! (and a BIG thank you to Michael for wielding the net and catching them - fast buggers!!!!!) I always know where to find more later on.

Since I only have the 2 girls, they will NOT ever, ever be bred unless I get an Icelandic rooster. I've been wanting them for broodies to hatch my babies for me!

I'm going to go try and get some pictures, and then I have to think of Icelandic names for them!

That little coronation sussex I gave you must be a girl...she's a survivor. I hope to come home to a chick or two tonight. I heard one chirping in the egg this am!!

Okay................(drum roll).................here they are! (ignore the mottled java on the right) The one on the left has a lot of butterscotch coloring to her, the one in the middle has some lacing but it didn't show up well in the picture. Thanks The other Mary for the link for the names.
