Icelandic Chickens

Hi All

Yes, wed when the next ones go in lockdown it will be in an egg carton, then chuck it after and save on clean-up.

Speedy and his buddy were in the brooder before noon, I had to run errands got back AT 230 and there was one more , total of this set of four hatched, out of 16 set, I attribute, maybe, to cold weather during delivery, when the carrier knocked on the door it was below freezing. Then the temperature disaster Fri of overheating and then dropping the other way over night.

So, I consider these to be four little miracles. All four are chipmunks, Tiny little guys, one is from what looks like a pullet egg,

Wed have a set from Kim Camelot, and next week on 13th another set from Mary, in July I am expecting some Iowa Blue eggs, would like to have a dozen or so of them. I think these two breeds will be aplenty.

Speedy and pal are munching turkey starter, and drinking, I give them a dip drink, or three when they come out of the hatcher. Just a quick little dip of the beak in the water and let them drink it down. When Kims set come out this weekend they will go in the same brooder, I am expecting much better results on the next two sets, even so I am a third there on what I'd like to have, at least in hens. But probably 3 roos in there .

I dont expect anymore hatches overnight. No pips right now. But will leave them in the hatcher til tomorrow afternoon. Today is the 21rst day.

Good luck everyone, may your brooders be running over !

Hey I got a question. My nephew wants to take an Icelandic to the fair. He is in 4-h. What class would they go into? Any other breed? Or some sort of open class? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks Mike

Edited to say... He needs to know by tomorrow.

I just had a fun experience... I had a visitor here at the house to pick up some USANA vitamins that my wife sells and she is from Iceland!! I told her I had Icelandic chicken eggs in the incubator and she got all excited and wanted to know how I got them and why etc etc.. She lives here, hasn't been home to Iceland for 6 years and while she lives in a subdivision that won't allow her to keep chickens, she wants to buy eating eggs from me when (and if) I get to that point. Very nice lady and we had a good talk about Icelandic breeds.. I showed her Mary and a few of her birds... made her homesick.. she said they looked just like the ones in Iceland... fancy that!!

Mary- Your eggies arrived today! Nary a one was broken.

I wish everyone would pack eggs with such care.

These Icelandics are awesome birds!! Most of the ones I hatched in March have a topnotch and I think one little roo thinks he is king tut the way he struts around and wants to take on everyone in the house!!

Don't give up on the eggs yet jake especially if you had temperature fluctuations. Keep us posted.

I am glad your eggs arrive unbroken Laree.

Loved the story Shawn!

It's been a crazy day. I'll catch up tomorrow.

I'm sorry. I do not know the answer. I do not show birds, so I have no clue.

It would end up in the "catch all" category like Easter Eggers...

Icelandics are not/have not been accepted into the standard of perfection.

Whew! Just finished post 500. I have to keep stopping myself from commenting on all the beauties.
