Mary, I love the emus!! Someday...maybe I'll have to get some...
My icelandics are doing great and growing like weeds... I have been using turkey starter this go around as well and they do seem to be doing better. I'll get some pictures later of them..
Re to Icelandics, I have 4 picked out of the 21 that are keepers, 3 with size and crests, the little silver that isnt little anymore, there are several of these that are really in growth spurts !! Will have some roos to rehome as I only need/want 3 out of the 21 chicks. Its going to be hard for sure. They plus the 3 started ones will give me six to mate with ~ 12 pullets. With one or two of them for backups. The lineup for now is Blau, Isison, Skjotur, and I think maybe one of the crested little guys that I think is a roo already from behavior, stance, comb, and tail set. But, at 2 weeks, cant be sure without taking it out and its more fun this way to guess, besides which with its growth and color its a keeper whatever it is.
Ok, a kind friend sent me an email telling me the situation with Stuart might be dire. We just got back from the vet with him and he does indeed have the three roofing screws in him as well as two long sharp wood screws, a rectangular piece of metal, and a lot of rocks. These items are all still in his gullet and the immediate danger is perforation and later toxicity from the zinc coating of the roofing screws. Our options are surgery, and I am waiting for a call back from the avian vet, or doing a Metamucil flush 3 times a day for several days in hopes of moving the stuff through. Option 1 is "dicey and probably expensive" and option 2 is "not likely to work but worth a try."
We stopped by the Equipment Rental store on the way home and rented one of those big magnets on wheels and Michael is using it to pick up all the metal crap left around the barn by prior owners and our barn builder. I am freaking out waiting for return phone calls.
