Icelandic Chickens

That was HALF of the job. Dipped every single bird (Permethrin concentrate) too. Will repeat in 7 days. Yesterday I found mites on one of my birds, so HAD to do this. Just did it a couple months ago and repeated in 10 days. This time I will repeat in 7 days AND use Ivermectin pour on for a double whammy and worm them at the same time.

I didn't have a calculator, and ran out of counting sticks. BUT, it was less than it was a couple weeks ago. Less than 300, I am sure.

10 hours start to finish.
6 workers.
Permethrin concentrate (lots of it).
New sprayer because the old one broke.
15 bales of pine shavings
D.E.

√ Every coop and pen gutted to the basic structure.
√ Every coop and pen dusted, and scrubbed.
√ Every coop and pen roosts sanded and saturated in Permethrin solution.
√ Every nest cleaned out and dusted with D.E. and shavings replaced.
√ Every bird dipped in Permethrin solution.
√ Fresh new shavings in every coop and pen, on top of light layer of D.E. and Permethrin powder dusted atop.
√ Every feeder and watered washed and rinsed in Oxine water.

In the interest of fairness and full disclosure I have about 67 right now but 10 are going to farmer Fred and then more as the roos show themselves.

Well now, that is a good number. I have way tooooo many. I hoped to cut to 100 for winter, but am now thinking 125. My grow outs are about big enough to pick my breeders from, and I can cull out the rest. My Icelandics are already cut, except for 2 roosters yet to go. I do see a light at the end of the tunnel............ finally.

Yeah, until the hatching but bites you in the rear again.

There was a post on Craigslist with someone a few towns over from me selling
a pair of Icelandic Chickens for $100. Went down to $75 next time it was posted.
THEN someone else slammed the poster as a scam artist since you could get a
dozen eggs off E-bay and hatch them yourself for $25........
