Icelandic Chickens

I always tell Bryan to get more tools if he needs them. He does not have a router though. Maybe I will have to have him get himself one for his birthday

i finally have gotten around to take some more pictures of my icelandics... they are about 4 months old now.... and i think i have one rooster and a variety of hens. these are a few of the same that survived.... they free range and i hardly ever see them.... i think either cos the breed is slow to grow or their growth is stunted from the feed that was first killing off my (very successful) hatched batch... went from 19/24 hatch to 3-4 weeks later i have 6-7 left??? and the rooster is barely crested...

Mary - Love the new coop! It looks great!

I'm still afraid of the table saw - but I love nail guns and the circular saw!!!!! Routers are great for cutting the sheeting for windows and doors. You frame the wall, sheet it, stand it up and when you're ready - use the router to cut the opening. Super easy!

We still do that part the old fashioned way by drilling four holes in the corners then using a jig saw to cut out the opening. After building this coop I doubt we will ever do another project together again. Way too stressful.

I better go see if my emus are going to stomp my baby Icelandics to death. Talk about stressful.

So far so good on the emu v. Icelandic babies. The babies are sticking close to the coop and in the chicken corral where I threw scratch. I suppose the real test will be when they wander out. The funny thing is we missed three of the Icelandic juveniles in the big coop last night! When the pop door opened this morning out they came. I have no idea where they were hiding in an 8x10 coop. I had blocked off the rafters so they couldn't get up there. Wherever they were it isn't going to work for them tonight.
