Icelandic Chickens

I hope that's miles per gallon - otherwise you are going to be totally broke at 12 gallons per mile!

They really suck you in with: I want that color, and ooh, look at that color, and wait, that one's pretty too.

its miles per gallon. Thanks for pointing that out.

Farmerboy when you get them we expect pictures pronto. Have a safe trip. My son drove from the Chicago area to Washington state, I think it was 1300 miles. He was younger than you and I didn't want him doing it alone. But you can't successfully preach to someone older than 18. Then he drove the 1300 back home 3 mos. later. He said he'd never do that again.

Only 3 more days and I will be on the road, too! Driving about 550 miles to Indianapolis to the Crossroads Show. I also have a detour on my journey. I will be stopping in Illinois to pick up some birds for a friend. The breeder has 3 breeds, as far as I know. One breed is Icelandics. I get to tour his facility and will take pictures.

Crossroads is one big show I really want to see sometime. Have a great time Kathy,

foggy this morn, but no rain, yet, if, the snow holds off I might get both sheds done, I am hoping so, ifnot, not. We'll see. I keep expanding them, in my mind, need to damper that and stay with the plan.

I am looking forward to hearing how the Icelandics handle the winter in various parts of the country, I am expecting well. Winters here are similar in temps to MI, but more snow, so the shed gets a pretty steep pitch, and extra roof support. They will have a heater under the waterer, maybe a heat lamp. Ditto the 2nd shed if I get it done, if so it can hold hay this winter.

I know that some of the early Icelandic setlers had all of their livestock under roof with them, maybe thats where Stellas wandering came from, looking for the warmest bed?

Google Icelandic sagas or search amazon, you will get some fascinating insights to early life in Iceland, besides the historical info. It was vastly different from what we have today. Strong people and strong livestock.

Re: driving, my move, with side trips was 3180 miles, from northern MI to NE WA, and fascinating, through some of my favorite parts of our beautiful country ! We are blessed far more then we realize. !

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !

I used to live 1 hour from the Crossroad show for 11 years but never got into poultry. Now I'm 14 hours drive away.

Wonder how does Icelandics adapt to the southern states weather? Environment would eventually alter their characteristics, but probably after many generations.

That would be great! I would love to meet you there!

Well, I will bump it one time,

trying to lay out the ground of the new shed, going to be a section longer then I'd originally planned. Once its layed out will get the rest of the post holes dug and staked, I am hoping the weather holds, mornings have been cool and foggy but the afternoons nice, hands get cold easy now mornings until the fog lifts and the sun is out. Living with the joys of arthritis.

Life is good and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats.
