Icelandic Chickens

So did you get chicks or eggs from Greenfire?

Holy Cow! $99 a chick.

I'll wait till you have a bunch of them before ordering eggs from you Mary...

AND, your birds are even more spectacular and breathtaking than the ones they have pictured on their site!!!

How many do you have... more than two I hope!!!

Mary has a very nice beginning flock, they are just plain gorgeous !

Greenfire has done well in bringing these new to America beautiful breeds. It is interesting that so many of them have come from Scandinavia.

Some fascinating genetc packages.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !

I bought a trio before they switched over to selling day old chicks only. I waited several months. Then I got 9 day-olds, one black, two splash and 6 blue. Only one was a cockerel, a little blue one.

So I have 2 males and 10 females. I don't know how people get hatching eggs from them. They claim to not sell them. I think you have to have a special relationship with them to get hatching eggs which I should have considering the money I've spent. Anywho, that's my Isbar story. I should be getting eggs in the next month or so from the oldest pullet, followed the next month by the other pullet. The babies will be awhile.

My hens are giving me ulcers waiting on them to lay!lol One layed two eggs then quit when the weather changed and hasn't started back. Two have beautiful bright red combs and wattles and two more are growing and getting redder everyday. I want them to lay but I don't either!lol. I would rather they wait till clopser to spring so they will be laying longer in hatching season! But I may have to start hatching season early!

I hit the sac early figuring it would have already run it's course.

Of course I was wrong.

Still in awe of Mary's Isbars.
