If, you can place a heat lamp above the nest at the right height you can keep them from getting too cold. Maybe get several more eggs for the week following NYS.

That Porter website was awesome! I didn't know there were that many varietys! I may have to give them a try! In all my years of chicken raiseing I have never had turkeys, always heard they were sickly and hard to raise. Now all I hear is how easy they are to raise! Chickielady,wish you wern't so far away I would take you up on the beltsville! But from Wa. to Tn would proably be to far for turkey eggs.

Mary, I'm pretty sure I saw Daron's post on the NYD Hatch thread listing Icelandic eggs!!!

Kathy, I see they're having a "Most Colorful Rooster" contest......better get out there and get some Diablo pics to enter!!!!

Mary what have been your night temps been running there?

Yesterday morn I had 0 also, this morning its milder, havent checked yet but I am putting up another tarp today. I am concerned about the frostbite of Isi's, the other two had dark 'spots' on the tips of their rose combs. I am thinking for sure pea combs would be safer for them. None of the hens had any frostbites at all. I amnot sure how long it will take to selectively breed smaller combs, but it has to be. It will hurt but Isi will have to be rehomed.

And I am thinking that larger crests will be a plus also, anything that will help to keep the head warmer.

This time tomorrow I will be getting ready to call the Post Office, looking for the Fab Feathered Three !

Congrats on the eggs!!!!!

Jake - I'm usually a bit colder than where Mary lives and we've been around 34 at night. Don't the Iowa Blues you've been thinking of getting have larger combs too? If you can prevent drafts, that should help with the frostbite. My welsummer rooster got a touch of frostbite last year on his comb. I shored up the spots I think a draft can get in, so hopefully this year will be better for him.
