I never would have figured that out!Did you try booties Mahonri? Probably too late now and for sure they wouldn't leave the booties alone. Darned Icelandics!
QUIZ: Find the emu heads:
ANSWER:
I think she's been over on the Java thread more now that she doesn't have her Icelandics anymore.Has anyone heard from ChickieLady? I know she was up to her neck in Washington weather - tons of snow, then rain. I hope she's okay and just really busy
I had a SLW hatchery pullet that had two curled toes. I named her Crook. I didn't have my Icelendics then, but the others did not bother her and she was able to get around fine.Well, I had moved the remainder of the NYD hatch chicks from the Laree Brooder into grow out pen #1. I just went out to check on them and there are two or three Icelandics that just can't leave the deformed toes of the SFH pullet alone. So I took the two SFHs and put them back into the Laree brooder. I may add the Wheaten Am and the Lavendar Am back in with them tomorrow so they aren't so lonely... or perhaps #29 too.
Will they ever leave her alone? I once had a Salmon Faverolle hen with toes like that on one foot. There were a few who didn't want to leave her alone but eventually they out grew it.
They have to get over it by February 2nd when I have to put the new babies in the Laree brooder.
My little Icelandic pullet that wouldn't stand last week is doing better..I kept her at home in the Nella brooder for several days and then a couple of days ago when it was supposed to get down into the single digits I took her out to the barn thinking it would be warmer.. I put her in with the hens and they pretty much left her alone.. I check her every day and she seemed to be doing a little better. Today she was walking around a little!! She acts a little gimpy still so I'm thinking she must have been injured by a overzealous rooster as several of you guessed... I'm just so pleased that she is acting better and hopefully will make a full recovery.. She is the one the kids say has a unicorn comb..![]()
Sorry no pictures DD forgot the camera.. I'll get some pictures of our progress, Grandma and Unicorn tomorrow.
I have one hen laying, but the other has not yet. But every egg from her that I have incubated has not been viable, but I have seen my roo mounting her. :/ Someone told me that it the issue might be the lack of 12 hours of daylight, so my roo is not fertile yet. I am getting about 10 hours of daylight here. Will wait until March 1st to try again, maybe sooner.Daron also are the Tomaru's laying.

Kelly, My DH would NEVER tell me that..........he knows I have no control!I like hatching with broodies for so many reasons,
that some of yours go broody soon! I hope you had a great girls night out!![]()
I had a thought earlier today. If I manage to hatch Icelandics but not any Tomarus, so that got me thinking big time. I came up to this reason, and you guys can shoot it down if I am wrong.Quote:
