Icelandic Chickens

Yes it does. I was wondering earlier, how drastically the traffic has dropped. It would be interesting to see the numbers.

I watch the stats on the site throughout the day, every day!

Here are some details:

  1. visits - Up from last year and higher than before the conversion
  2. unique visitors - Up from last year and higher than before the conversion
  3. pageviews - Lower than last year and lower than before the conversion (this is mostly because on the old system it would take 2-4 times more page loads to do what you can do here in one, for example, you can reply instantly at the bottom of the page (one pageview) vs. the old system reply, submit, reload, (three pageviews).
  4. posts per day - about the same as last year but down from before the conversion. Probably due to people's struggles getting use to the new system and performance problems (top priority)
  5. new member signups - Up from last year and higher than before the conversion

So, considering the size and scope of the changes to the site, the stats above are actually pretty encouraging. As we continue to improve performance and work out bugs to the system we expect things to continue to improve!

I had pulled out one Icelandic egg out of the 'bator last night, as it had quit.

So, I am down to 13 eggies.

Not a problem, we adjusted just fine!

She said she could fit 42 in her incubator so that means I can't bring more than 28........12 yesterday......10 so far today....it should work out perfectly!

But you'll have so many more later this year!!

I was getting about 2 to 3 eggs a day, and I did not want the eggs get too old, so I shipped it earlier. My goal to build up to about 10 or so Icelandic hens, and have two pens of Icelandics with roos from a different lines. Thanks for the post, Nifty-Chicken! Its cool to see that! :D

Daron, I started 2011 with just two hens. I now have those two plus 16 of their daughters. I also placed 6 other pullets in new homes. You'll do fine with the group you have!!

Thanks, but the black Icelandic chick that I hatched right after NYDH is a COCKEREL!!!! :barnie That was the only Icelandic chick that I have!! :he I have been trying to sell 6 roos for months, and I do not need another one right now!

Has anyone used electrified netting to contain your Icelandics? We *might* have to move in the next year and I am looking for a temporary fencing solution.

We have electric netting (to keep the goats out of the chicken area) but it does NOT contain chickens at all! The Icees just go right through, or over or even under - they simply just scoot. Of course, the 5 foot no-climb 4 strand electric fence doesn't keep them in either. Well, that one was more to keep predators out anyway.

I'm not sure there is a way to keep a determined Icelandic "Inside".
