This gene pkg seems to be very varied, all 3 of my featherleged guys are doing well, even the small one is catching up and the white large one is just barely larger now then the BBRW rooster, I think that they are going to be very close by June.

On my hens all are RC but one, who was pretty much a SC going into the winter but now appears to be half SC with a lot of RC in it, so I am hoping her chicks by the RC roosters will be RC also. All but one hen are crested, and both roosters that I will use this year are crested so hoping for a majority of crests in the chicks. It is going to be interesting to see what the fall count is in chicks, sex and traits.

A beautiful spring day here today, sunny and 74, very little wind.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

Jake, that is quite a switch up from your prior weather posts! Kelly is correct for us. We are getting our year's worth of moisture in ten days. MISERABLE! It was sunny this morning and after so many days of driving rain, the animals went nuts running and playing. The baby emu girls were dancing like no one was watching. As it should be.

Fray

So, I went down and took a close look at Pala and it seems that it's not a fray, but looks more like a partially modified silky (hookless) feathering. It's mostly on the under body, with some sideswept feathers just beneath the wings.

This doesn't seem to bother her; she is a little smaller than my two others, but I don't have much to compare her with. All three hens are much smaller than the cockerels (or, they are much bigger than the hens). She certainly has NO problem flying. The only time she has a problem, is when it pours with rain; then her "silky" type feathers get waterlogged and she looks like a drowned something or other.

As soon as I can get someone to help me, I will take and post pics. She's not hard to handle, she's just very busy all the time and staying in one place is most often too much to ask of her.

Day 7 and I just candled my 44 eggs from Mary (not a farm) 42 eggs are developing nicely . only one infertile and one blood ring. YEAH!

I checked a little while ago and they are in the nest again., so I think I will wait a day or two until I am sure they will stick before I put any icelandics under them, just pray the inci continues to hold steady for two more weeks!
