Icelandic Chickens

Griffinkid Icelandics areNOT a strain, they are one of the oldest and purest breeds of chickens on Earth ! Pure for over a 1,000 years ! Any crossing with them would be defilement of a world genetic heritage and treasure.

Oh, my Brinsea cabinet incubator came today too. It is a little flimsier than I thought it would be but I don't plan to move it around. I moved all the eggs over to it after getting it up to temp. Tomorrow I will lock down my Easter hatch-a-long eggs!

Let me know how you like it, I am looking for a good inci too! Love the egg nest!!!!!

Kathy - beautiful video. My boys had a blast yesterday chasing Mary's emu's. Too bad we didn't get a picture of Stuart chasing my youngest (8) up a rock.

Mary - that egg nesting box is perfect! And how fitting that Lukka is the first inhabitant of it. I've gotta get one! I can just see my Fat Girls (my 2 English Orps) in it.

Yes, I realise that. I have been reading my way through the thread. But the mental imagery of what those poor children would have looked like made me have to stop reading to laugh. I would never SERIOUSLY suggest mixing such an amazingly beautiful bird as the icelandic with anything else, but for the sake of the laugh I wanted to share the mental images of the results of that "unholy alliance"

I also really do realize, in hindsight, that my use of the term "strain" was incorrect. But I'm still fairly new to chickens in general and it was just an honest misuse of jargon. I really DO realize how important it is to keep the Icelandic's genes pure, we humans have screwed up so MANY things on our planet trying to "improve" them. It is truly vital to protect one of the few that are still pure. Honestly, all I did was have a giggle at Mary's colorful descriptive abilities and wanted to share it with the group and not be a complete lurker, lol.
