Icelandic Chickens

Kathy can the little yellow wagon be pulled by Fred and Wilma???

Thats a beautiful hen and her babies !

I got major bummer news this morn from the vet,

I can't take the Icelandics across Canada, nor get them through the border station into Alaska.

I can have a zillion flown in, but cant transport them . And where I will be doesnt have delivery mail, and they dont handle chicks well. So its a blind canyon. Either I get some from someone already in Alaska or hatch eggs.

I am looking at options, long story short, mine are available to someone here in MI, I will drive to someone, to meet them halfway. I am just 40 miles from Grayling on I 75, hour and a half north of Saginaw, and 48 miles south of Alpena, just 4 miles from Lake Huron.

The price is 3-4 dz eggs mailed to me in AK from my featherlegged rooster and the hens, there will be five of them, several are staying with an Amish family here along with a rooster I gave them last year. With a pullet. I also have available a large BBR RC rooster from first week of June 2011. He was the largest in his hatch, good breeder and very active.

When Daron told about his problems I dosed mine with the Denaguard, have had no problems of any kind with them. I could sell them, I'd far rather place them with a breer here.

There is one self Blue hen, the Contessa, black with gold laced cape, and 3 wheaten hens, all but one hen is crested, and all are RCs but one hen which has a half and half comb.

So, two roosters, one tight feathered featherlegged BBR and one BBR , both have RCs. And the five hens which are laying well.

This hurts, but not as much as it did for Farmer Boy, that was a serious crunch.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

Jake,

Sorry to hear about the logistics difficulties.

It is too early in our program to be able to promise anything, but hopefully we will be successful in building a flock here in
Alaska and will be in a position to share something with you. The eggs have a tough journey through the mail to get up here.

Today was picture day here! (husband's out of town, so I have time on my hands

)

They are 15 weeks and some are starting to get red combs. Don't mind the dirty coop, haven't had a chance to clean it yet.

Love this girl's coloring:

This pullet almost looks splash, she's super friendly. First hot day here, that's why her wings are out. I think she'll be the first to lay:

This girl is a look alike to Other Mary's hen:

This is the girl with the feather issue (aka roadrunner) - for Mary:

This girl has a very slight feather issue - you have to look really hard to see it.

And finally, the drama queen in the group, trying out her acting ability for "dead chicken" pose.

The broody BR from Kathy was not amused by all the activity:

Ah, nice Kelly! Maybe this time next year those funky feathered ones will be history for me. I sure hope so. This will be the first time in along while that I don't have a whole bunch of Icelandics running around. Gonna be sad but worth the effort I hope!

Jake I'm so sorry to hear about the ban on transporting your birds. That is just a bummer.
