Hadn't been on in a while. Had a fox attack and almost wiped me out. Lost over twenty-five in one noght. Mostly young pullets but also some hens. Only had the roo and two hens and one large pullet survive. The hens went setting soon after that and the first hatched the Fourth! Hopefuuly I am back on the road to recovery again! Hen hatched all fourtten eggs, pretty good concidering the horrible heat we have had.

Welcome back, Okla Doodle! So sorry for your flock losses. What a terrible thing it is to lose even one much mess 25! Your girl must be descended from my Lukka. What a beautiful hatch she had. Can't wait to see them wandering outside. That will be adorable.

Hey check out our first annual 4th of July parade

I'm having fox problems too. There hasn't been a major wipe out, but she comes regularly and is picking my flock off one at a time when she can sneak past the horses to the coop. I've lost several to the heat despite the fans so I dare not lock them up. I've been on a stake out diet, sweating buckets in the coop each evening waiting for it to come back. The horses aren't on duty when they should be, but when I need them to be out of the way they are right between me and my target.

Today and tomorrow are supposed to be horrible, but expecting it to get down to 85 by Sunday. Sad, isn't it, when I look forward to that.

Okla, cute babies. I love the look on the face of the one directly under mama's head.

karimw, ugh, I feel for you. I'm still staking out to nail a raccoon that's killed all but one of my hens this year. My dad would like chickens out at his place as pest control, but I told him we'd have to build that coop and run like a penitentiary. Raccoons, foxes, skunks, and all manner of critters up to the gills there!
