Pictures of the dogs would be awesome! How many do you need to find homes for?

Good morning

Yes, I am back and curbing my Gypsy ways, needs to be. The pups are just six mos old, Old Alaskan Village dogs, no 'modern hound cross' in them, they are big freight type pups, will mature 65 to 75 lbs, sweet dispositions, love people, powerful even now. I would love to keep them all but two I can do justice to, they will be companions as well as back packing when my son and I go hiking and back packing ourselves. This winter they will also do some weight pulls at the MI sled dog races. I banged up my camera so got to find someone to do some pics. They are plush coated and will have the typical heavy Malemute coats. I brush them daily even now. My two I am keeping will be in my bedroom at night, and outside days. I will try and get pics, they do need to be 'up north' though.

I do plan on a small flock of Icelandics, free ranging days and penned at night. Rose combs only and preferably feather-legged. Two roosters and six hens will do us nicely, more eggs and we'd be looking for other uses. With two dogs they will be getting eggs too as long as several friends.

Its good to be back here, really is, but, I am glad I went up to Alaska, a great camping trip, its still one of my favorite places on Earth. But MI has a great deal for me and is where I belong.

As it happens I have an excellent raised platform for a large brooder and young chicken grow-out, its the chicken house itself that I need to build and that will be a winter project so I will be looking for spring chicks or eggs to hatch, I am leaning towards the later, but I will have a better incubator and hatching area then last time. It will house up to 20 hens but I will be keeping up to a dozen, over six and we are supplying others and the dogs, but also a dozen gives more variety.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

Another growing year is about gone by, and the Icelandics have more breeders,

how many hens have you all now at the end of your hatching/growing year?

I am really curious about the numbers now.

I'm one of those new breeders, my first year with a combination of Mary and The Other Mary stock

I have three cockerels and four pullets, two of which have recently started to lay, the other two shouldn't be too far behind.

Hi Deb what colors do you have?

Their diversity is one of their great attractions for me. Plus the hardiness and free ranging ability. I am looking forward to getting a flock together.
