Idaho?

One of my meat chickens was giving me the eye!!

I think I am going to have trouble butchering some of these. There are several that are quite appealing. One tries to sit on my knee but she is getting pretty big! She is a sweetie pie and lets my little granddaughter mess up her feathers by petting backwards
without complaining much. lol.

Does anyone near Boise/Meridian/Nampa area have any bantams that they are wanting to sell for a reasonable price? I am looking for a friend or two for my Bella (she is my mystery Bantam pullet) and she is the only bantam I have, all my others are LF.

Did you find you bantam? I have a friend has bantams and she might be willing to part with one or more let me know [email protected]

Hey Marcie oh sister of mine do you have that bantam Roo still that needs a home? I might be interested in him But would Need you to Hold onto him until I get moved up to Mountain Home though, I would even be willing to give you my 2 surviving orpington pullets If you and Dave were interested.

i hear ya - my husband is only sentimental about his dog. When it is time to off a chicken that i don't really have the heart to i add it to his honey-do list. We even roasted his favorite rooster this week - tasty tasty.

had some spare time today - figured it would be fun to update my photo albums here on BYC...
OMG!!! the glitch in my coop album is frustrating me - rearranged the pics like 30 times and the stupid thing STILL won't save, even tried moving 1 pic at a time. time for a coffee break!

My quail did fine last winter. I do have them in my unheated barn. Overnight it is typically only a few degrees warmer than outside. But it is basically draft free.

I have XL Jumbo Browns & Texas A&Ms and large Golden Manchurian Coturnix coming next week! I should have chicks available next December or January from these new lines.

I've been more selective about the quail eggs I incubate on my last two hatches. On my last hatch I have several of the few I kept that are over the "tantanka" size at four weeks of 200 grams. One huge male was 224 grams! Three or four of the five females were over 200, the other was just under.

I'm really excited about the new lines I have coming. The A&Ms are bred for meat size, reaching butcher size a week earlier than the typical jumbo, but lay random eggs sizes. The XL Browns are good dual purpose, good size for meat and lay XL eggs. The Manchurians typically don't get over 10 ounces but are very prolific & efficient egg layers for those who prefer a more normal size quail egg.

Eggcited!

I just had two chicks hatch last night. 13 eggs made it to lack down. I'm hoping more with hatch in the next couple days. These are the first from the birds that hatched form the eggs I bought from you. So cool!! I have another dozen about ready to go in the bator too.

I am hatching today too! Yay! I think I have 8 out so far today. First time I have set eggs with no heat spikes and issues so I am hoping I have a decent hatch this time :) Good luck, I hope you get the rest to hatch!

I hatched a Welsummer on Thursday! Noone else has hatched and they were due Friday. How long before I give up? 9 eggs set, two were clear when I got around to candling on day 17, four were wiggling around in there, and 3 were too dark to tell.

The chick that hatched came out the wrong end! Lucky little twerp. And by her markings she's a girl!

She's noisy. Lol. Anyone coming through Star Valley, WY with a chick to spare? There's no way I'll get to Idaho until after hunting season.
