Idaho?

Blood in the eggs can happen with non fertile eggs as well. It's just the result of a minor glitch in the oviduct. Store bought eggs don't have these because the breeds used are less blood/meat spot prone and mass production eggs go through a machine which rejects eggs like that. Note that some breeds are prone to this issue, mostly the large bodied dual purpose breeds. Having a rooster doesn't increase egg production in my experience. In fact, the stress of an overly amorous rooster can cause a decrease in egg production in sensitive hens.
I am having that problem with the Maran x Welsummer Rooster I have in with my girl's, he stresses them out so much that the 5 hens have gone from 5 a day down to 2 a day.

Hey Cheryl!! That black one looks like it has some copper on it's neck?? Interesting!! They are looking like pullets, Yay!! What are the chances of that?!?!?!

What on earth are you going to do with 54 quail????

Yes, she does have copper! I took those photos as we were busy booting them out of the indoor goat pen as I had an injured goat I needed to move inside. Yeah I'm so excited they all still look like pullets! LOL I'll try to get better photos of the black one.

My friend & I hatched out 14 Icelandic Chicks a few weeks ago. I think all but maybe 3 of them are pullets too! I'm probably backwards and 3 will be pullets!

I figure it is possible that only 1/2 to 2/3 the quail eggs will hatch. The cock from one of three pens seemed to be just getting the whole fertilization process figured out & the tiny eggs chill so fast that I'm afraid that some may have gotten too cold. I have buyers lined up for about 3 dozen quail chicks and I want about 8 - 12 more hens and maybe 1 or 2 cocks for myself. Since it costs as much to run the incubator for a dozen eggs as it does for 4 dozen I figured I'd fill it up! Well not full as it can handle 17 dozen quail eggs! Yikes!

I just candled some eggs. Didn't get a really good look because the light I have right now gets hot. The husband has an LED but keeps forgetting to get it out of his work truck and waiting to candle was killing me! Lol

2 are for sure growing, I think 3 are clear but on 2 shells are just a little too dark to tell for sure and the one is speckled so not sure if I'm seeing spots of veining, so going to wait until I can use the LED. The green ones are way too dark to see inside without a brighter light.

Hopefully I get more than 2 chicks

Baby goats are sooo cute. I miss having them.

The chicks all look like hens but I am a little worried about the black one. It might just be the angle but it kinda looks a little rooish. LOL Just a little.

Ok I will try this on here before I try on Craigslist... I have 6 Sexlink pullet chicks for sale, 3 Black sexlink and 3 gold sexlink. When I went to the feedstore to pick up some straightruns for my great-nephew Ethan's and my "growing" project I saw the sexlink chicks and fell in love with them, so I bought some which turned out to be 6 too many. They are a week and a half old and are starting to get their feathers in ( I don't know how old they are exactly, I am going off of what the people at D&B told me). I don't have any pictures of them at this time.

i would so take some of the sexlinks off ya hands since they are great egg layers and they lay nice large i mean large eggs.. cause that colosal egg i showed was from my sex link cause she is still laying me eggs that dont fit in the eggcarton.. but i'm kind of over my chicken limit by 11 lol omg i didnt relize i was over that much

Chicken math strikes again! Lol!

We swore we would only keep 8 hens at a time. Then the expansion started.... Now we have 30 hens, 12 pullets, 5 chicks for sale, 11 more hatched and cannot decide who to keep....12 eggs in the bator, setting 36 more tonight, and 36 eggs in the mail coming in a few days.... And 20 eggs paid for but waiting to ship until I have room. Oh and 4 pullets ordered to pick up in a month or so that I definitely am keeping :p

Good thing I have patient neighbors!
