Idaho?

So around this area about how old before I can leave them out all night? I am letting them out during the day now and specially will be since we have the roofing done. 2 Chicks that are 6 weeks 1 duck that is 4 weeks and 1 duck that is 1 week old.

We wont be able to have a lamp out there... They do very well during the day - if it isn't too windy...

I think it was a concussion. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause her to be walking around normally right after the incident and then get sleepy and die later. She may have been acting tired when I first went out there, but she was always a very laid back chick (got the name Patience because she was content being held on her back like a baby by small children) i was too busy looking for wounds to notice I guess, but I don't think there would have been anything I could have done to save her. My setup for the chicks to get some exercise outside is a small covered pet playpen inside a larger one so if they stick their heads out, they won't get grabbed. The smaller one got knocked over when the dog used the roof to try to climb out.

Little booger stole the hearts of the whole family. I didn't really want Marans but needed a companion for my single chick that hatched. *Sigh* My daughter wants to have a fancy chicken funeral this afternoon. She still looks forward to eating the other 2 if they turn out to be roosters. Lol

On a more positive note someone emailed me a while back that the CAL in Blackfoot carries Welsummers during Chick Days. Anyone close enough to check?

befor my babies were umm yeah killed by my dog for the last 2 weeks i been having them out side in there coop and run and they all been just fine, if they got to cold they just huddled up in the coop with the dry straw.. our weather hasnt been to bad i know its been a bit cold here and there but not bad enough to kill them so i think right now its fine to put them out in there huts now just keep your dogs away if they like the taste of chicks ><

The saga continues...... My MIL called this morning and told us their neighbor saw Porter (our LGD) in Moms field (right next to ours) and he was hurt... I figured since he had figured out a way through the ditch under the fence yesterday afternoon that he had just gotten past our upgraded barrier and had a scratch from the barb wire running under the fence... Well when I got out there, he was no where to be seen so I fixed the ditch blockage and went back to the barn.. I see this white over by the ducks behind the fallen tree and as I get closer I see that it is Porter and he is not moving.. When I got to him, he raised his head but didn't move.. Long story short... we got him to the vet and while there is no bullet or fragments in him, his lung is punctured and there is a perfectly round hole on his right side behind his shoulder along his rib cage.. So no surgery.. the xray did show fluid in his lung and an air pocket in the body cavity.. vet said there was no current air leakage and no evidence of current bleeding.. so he is to rest for a week, penicillin shots etc..

I called the sheriff because of our previous dealing with the crazy neighbor but even though he agrees Porter was probably shot, there is no proof.. I hate to think the neighbor shot him but don't know what else it could be... It is exactly in the location of a "kill shot" for those that hunt... I think we got lucky and they used a 22 from a long enough distance that while the bullet penetrated but took his thick long fur in with it and when Porter moved his fur pulled the bullet out..

He should be fine.. the "incident" is on record and we will hope for the best...

awww i'm sorry shawn i hope porter is gona be feeling better soon and hope the sherrif does end up doing something about yoru crazy neighbors

Anyone from the North Idaho area have lavenders? Looking to introduce the gene into my flock. Would like to start with a cockerel to save in time. The breed doesn't matter so much as I am most interested in the color.

Does anyone in SE Idaho have Jumbo Coturnix Quail eggs for sale? I PM'ed IcyOldHen. She messaged me back her price, but I have no idea where in SE Idaho she is and she didn't reply back. Any help would be great.

I do plan to be at Chickenstock. I'm about 15 miles south of I.F.

Ok, good. I'm in Rexburg, so I would be able to pick them up rather than have them shipped. In like the Firth area? I'm hoping to be able to convince my wife soon to be able to raise quail also.
