Idaho?

:D I just got back from Idaho Falls, guess who I brought home with me? 3 little Silver Laced Wyandottes. I think they are a week old. My older chicks warmed up to them fine. It's AMAZING seeing them side by side how much they grow in so little time!

Is there anyone traveling between Emmet or Boise and Pocatello (or beyond Poky) who would be willing to transport a pair of young pullets to me? I would chip in some gas money......

Yep one of your eggs. Today is day 21 and have 2 hatched so far. The other is an EE as well. Super puffy cheeks from what I can tell. Will have to take some pics in a few days and post them.

Yay!!
Thanks Michelle!!!

Just found out that my sister-in-law has an oilfield 'man camp' trailer she might not want. If so, it'll come here. They make awesome chicken coops when dropped off their axles, and chicken doors are cut into them, and runs are built. Talk about strong, safe, insulated and already wired for electricity!! Perfect ready-made coops!! Since they are 10X20 I split up the interior. Perfect for another three to four breeds to occupy separately ...lol. Now to get caught up on runs for the coops I already have....

. I have 3 I'm still working on and should be done by end of next week. UGH!!
Wow, those sound like Awesome chicken houses!!

I put up a poll on my QCU facebook page if anybody is interested in voting. It's time to decide how many birds to keep in my breeding pens for the 2014 season.

Will check it out!
We got a huge egg from the ducks today... normal egg weighed 2.6 oz this one was 5.7 oz!

Double yolker and conjoined!

Looks painful, but that's cool!

So dang mad!!! Two dogs came onto our property and attacked my irrigation ditch weed eating goat!! They got his leg pretty bad, tore up his ears, and bit his neck. His ditch hopping days are over for a long time if he even recovers. I stitched him up and put him on some antibiotics and now I just hope he doesn't have permanent nerve damage in that leg. Even if infection doesn't take over, he can still die from the trauma. He's been here since he was born and he's the best ditch goat I've ever had. Oh, and now I'm going to have to tend his wounds everyday. Add that to my ever growing to-do list. I'm not usually quick to anger, but this is just infuriating.

I agree, rifle by the back door step, not cool at all!
My chick ship the 15th, I'll probably get them Friday! Not looking to the phone call in the wee hours of the morning, though!

What kinds?????

I received my Wheaten Marans chicks this week!!

I lost one right away, but the others are doing great! If all goes well, next year I will have chicks available

Oh!!
Forgot to mention I will have some extra Bantam Easter Eggers and Olive Egger chicks that haven't been claimed from my hatch this week... if anyone wants one??

They're super cute!!! Puffy cheeks and feathered feet!

Right on schedule (26 days for midget white turkeys)......first time mama is hatching her eggs! I now count at least FIVE. I won't get the total count until she gets up off her nest. It's so cute seeing the babies peeking out from under her feathers. Some are even starting to walk around a bit.

I'm going to end up with 10 silkies and only want to keep about 4. Anyone interested in my others? Once they are old enough to sex I'll be getting rid of some, since I can't keep roos here, and don't want a ton (hubby would kill me!). I have 2 buff and have blues coming this week. They'd be free to a good home!

I'm in Meridian, and won't mind delivering a little ways, or meeting half way or whatever. Just shoot me a PM!

I'll be sure to post again and put up pics when they're ready to go. :)

In other news... I'm really hoping for blue splash hens! Lol.

And my little ones got to go into the run for the first time today!

This was their second time outside, and they were out with me for about an hour! They were much more happy this time and didn't want to come back in. Big difference from last time when they just wanted to hide!

The police gave them a citation. Apparently, these dogs have been trouble before, so there was no simple warning this time. We're going to put some additional fencing on our ditch so that dogs can't get in there again. We have hotwire, but they got in anyway. I'm glad that my sheep weren't in there. I think the dogs would have killed my lambs. I tell ya....if I see those dogs in my pasture again I'm getting my rifle. I'm all about love and peace until you mess with my babies!!!
I hope said goat has a very speedy recovery without any nerve damage. Gun loaded by the back door and hopefully you have good aim if the fence thing fails. I would do the same thing if anything messed with my babies.

Oh Michelle...... horrible to hear!!!

Really hope he pulls through.... goats are pretty tough if you gives them tons of loving. I have a little girl here who suffered severe frostbite. It became evident that it was worse than originally thought when half her leg just fell off one day, with virtually no blood loss. Although freakin' devastating to me, she continued eating and getting around. She also lost her ears and hoof on another foot. She now wears a boot I made her and a heavy sock on the stump, but shows no reason to give up. Hopefully yours has the gumption to keep going.

BTW: I used honey as an antibacterial. I works great!!!

Good luck!! And yes, the perpetrators need to be handled!!

Went to pick up some solid white pure AMs and ended up with Choc Orps too

.

Yep, officially nuts...lol.

So.....you have officially given up on that silly notion of maintaining sanity?

Did you get LF or bantams? I think the chocolate orps are beautiful.

So far my goat is doing "okay". His leg is swollen, but he's eating and drinking. He's not running a temperature so I'm hoping that there won't be an issue with infection. My husband drove up the road to see what was going on with the dogs.....and they were tied to a fence.....with extension cords!!!! These people are clueless!!
