Hi, I am in Parma and it has been hot, hot, hot here! The chickens are doing pretty good. The only thing is the pullets want to sit on the roosts in the house in the afternoon and of course they all want the top roost. LOL It is the hottest at the top if the house and they all sit up there with their wings open and their mouths open. LOL My Delaware sits up there with her neck stretched up looking very funny with the wings and the mouth open. I have shaded the run some so it really is a little better out there but the roosters rule that area and the pullets don't want to go out there and get chased around. I have 5 roosters that are about 13 weeks now and all think the pullets should love them....I have 4 younger roosters that are not like that yet. I thought about the frozen water jugs to put out there but it wont do them any good if they stay on the roosts. I have two doors that are open when the shade gets on the east side. That helps some. I have had to put the waters back into the house because the outside water is outside with the roosters and I want to make sure everyone gets water.

It has been cooler the last two days so they are getting so help there but I have got to get rid of some of those roosters so everyone can go out and not get chased all over. Do you need a rooster or two?? I have a pretty brown leghorn, a white leghorn, a golden laced Wyandotte That are all up for grabs. If I can't find homes for them they are meeting the ax soon. They are not really filled out enough for good eating but they are running the pullets too much. They all think they are just the king of the hill and the girls think they are just the pits. LOL

kessidy ~ you go girl!! ~ hey, did you know they have some chicken law here that says we can't have fowl in town? Some lady from the city drove through my alley and called us on it. (Wind blew the fence down, else she'd never have known ~ we're putting up a new one now...)

We looked at the codes, though, and it says Fowl over 50 lbs ~ lol, so I don't think they can do anything about it. They said they were going to fine us with a misdemeanor, but so far nothing has happened.

Anyway, I was thinking if enough of us from IF got together & went to the city council, armed with some good info, we could get that law changed to be more favorable to owning chickens in town. I got ahold of the lady at the animal control services ~ (Irene Brown) ~ and she seems favorable to having a few chickens, what with the economic pressures & such, & I believe she is the one that writes the animal codes. I just think we all need to get together & make a change, you know. Let me know what you think.

Hi, I am new to the forum. We live in Moscow and have a few RIRs which I just love, but at 4 am this morning, I realized that is was time to try to find a solution to their early morning wake up call (which has led here to BYC). Legally we are allowed to keep one hen per family member, so we are good there, but I don't want the chickens to annoy my neighbors. I have already gotten some good ideas about sound proofing the coop, so I will be working on that this week!
Anyway, just saying hello.

Boise, on the Bench! I love having our three girls - Marsha, Jan and Cindy - and they absolutely love having the run of the backyard during the day. Our pugs don't bother them at all anymore, finally got used to having them around. All our neighbors are well-aware of the chickens on the block, as I went around and told them we were getting chicks back in April. In Boise, you can have three hens, no roos.

My hubby calls himself "The Chicken Whisperer", as the girls have designated him roo-man. (you know, instead of hu-man... LOL). He can get them to follow him anywhere.

Hi I'm in Boise. Hi Kim I wont say my name on here for obvious reasons, but thanks for the seramas again! They are so cute I love them! The chicks all grew up and out of the four 3 survived, which supposedly is VERY good survivel rate, also the Japs are healthy and happy and breeding!
