It has not been too bad so far I get good breezes through most of the time and leave the windows open all the time. Yesterday was warm but I would guess the temp in the barn was about 80 and outside it was 97. The roof is insulated and that helps I think.

80 is much more tolerable than 90, that's for sure!!

Sold my cockerels, Yay!!

Can't wait for Lisa to come up tomorrow and bring those birds from Michelle... I'll post pics=)

So good to meet you! It was fun to chat chickens for a bit. Wish we had more time I could have hung out in the parking lot all day visiting :) Glad they are doing good and look forward to seeing you again!

This thread is hard to get going :p

Yes! Maybe during the cold months more people will be chatting chickens here :) peaking of weather---The rain was nice and the tiny bit of cool down has helped, my chickens were sooooo HOT! My DH got misters this weekend he wants to set up out there haha he loves my chickens secretly but does not want to admit it.

I have two new pullets looking like they will lay anytime, yay! :ya My BA started laying a week ago and I cannot believe how tiny her eggs are, stinker! They are smaller than my banty eggs. I had high hopes. I know they will improve, but the starting point is the smallest egg I have ever had from LF, so I worry she will ba a puny egg layer, that happens sometimes....darn it! She is so fluffy and pretty. and sweet for the most part. Might have to try another BA next spring to see if i got a dud.

I guess everybody is out enjoying the summer. :)

Yes, you're probably right=) Did you see the pic I posted a little while back about my pullet that just started laying... she's laying dark olive eggs.. was not expecting that... I've read that the peacomb is associated with the blue egg gene, is that true to your knowledge?? the pullet laying that egg has a straight comb, so I was wondering if I shouldn't have been surprised about the olive egg??

Oh yes.. must post pics of those birds from you Michelle...

The FBCM... I have some from someone who hatched them, I think they're from Arielle, they have even less any red on their necks, is that ok?? Boys named her Dougie... OE behind her and WA from Lisa's tail there..=)

The OE, boys named her Flower 'because her face is so puffy', awesome looking bird, Michelle!!

The olive eggers with straight combs usually lay brown eggs, but not always. If they do lay olive, it's typically darker than a pea comb olive egger.

I was gone all weekend camping in the nutty weather. After everyone being horribly grumpy, the rain, two near death experiances by humans, one of which as ME! since the brakes on my husband's off road truck decided to go out, (thanks everything he's an awsome driver and has very quick reflexes!) and then my friends dog getting hurt jumping out of the back of his truck while it was moving after she slipped her leash, she was tied down, and having to put her down from the injuries, I swear I will NEVER leaving to go camping on Friday the 13th again. At least there were no coop disasters, I had no choice but to leave the coop door open all weekend, I could't find a sitter. It was like being in one of the Final Destination movies, if it could go wrong it did. So it was nice to come home and see eveyone happily roosting and hug my llama this morning.

There. I have vented and shall move on to happy day.

Susan--camping trip from H! Eek! Glad you are home safe and your chickens are ok at least. Poor dog though, how sad :(

Michelle---as soon as I saw your post I hot footed it out there to the coop lol! I checked out the combs...I have one more peacombed OE, the one that is a Wheaten/marans mix....the Silver Am/Marans mix is straighter, so we will see what they do. I had a pair of black Ameraucana/FBCM mixes from back east, they both had pea combs but one was a little straighter than the other, it did lay brown and the more peacombed one laid olive so that theory proved true on that pair.! Never knew that! Daloorashens, what kind of comb is on yours? It looks kind of single-ish in the pic. I hope they all lay olive :love But if they are deeper brown and nice sized that works. My australorp laid another Peanut M&M today. Stinker. She is on my list of possibles to trade for new chicks in the Spring.

I get to babysit my neighbors house this week, she has 5 chickens. We went over to get eggs, GOOD SAKES her 2 eggs we got are way bigger than mine. Wonder what she is feeding those guys! I can fit either egg all the way in the carton. One of hers is an Australorp, .....wheels turning, squeeeeeekk......... I should play a joke on her and trade mine with hers and see what she says about the tiny eggs, that would be pretty funny :p They look identical, she would never know haha
