Idaho?

Ok, thanks. Will you have chicks in the spring? Maybe I could plan for that.
I'm not going to have pure wheaten marans next year, but I might end up with some that look like wheatens out of my black tailed buff marans project pen. 2013 will be my first year with black tailed buffs so I don't know exactly what the genetic makeup of my starter birds is yet.

This reminded me...speaking of carbs...my GSL jumped up and grabbed a snickers bar (the last 1/4 or so) from my hand and took off like lightning. Gobbled it down, I sure hope the chocolate won't make her sick! This was the beginning of the week, she has been fine so far. Wonder if her eggs will taste like chocolate....stinker....

She eats everything, and is such a bossy pig about it. The pumpkin we threw in from the garden today...she stood on top of it and yelled at everybody to get away. We had to break it into a bunch of pieces, then she was running from piece to piece yelling at the others. She is pretty funny to watch. Probably not so fun to hang out with if you are a chicken though lol

Yeah, the other chickens probably complain about her behind her back. LOL

LOL, That's what I was thinking... chickens are funny, that's for sure!!

And, I have a new layer!! Been pretty busy and not home much the past few days, so I don't know for sure who it is, and she laid in the run, naughty... I'm thinking it's my Marans BSL, she's definitely due to be laying, the eggs aren't too dark, kind of a reddish color... And my BA sqatted today, when I was walking by her, kind of funny... She is so pretty, I love that she is all black with that shiny green gleam to her feathers... so she should be laying next, along with the OE from you, Michelle and my older bantam cochin pullets, yay!!

Ok, you guys have got to check out the thread Michelle started for growing fodder for chickens, very cool, neat pics, too!!

And, what do you all do for watering during the winter?? When I was younger, I used big crocks that were easy to dump out and get the ice out of, but I'm thinking of using the tin can heaters, or something like that this winter...

Hello??? anyone???

I finally figured out my new egg layer is my BA, so my Marans BSL is still holding out on me..... Oh well, another one to look forward to laying=)

Carlie (Wheaten Am/Marans "OE") on left, Sonny (Silver Am/Marans "OE") on right! These are your girls Michelle :) The color is awesome on Carlie's. And Sonny's are really big for first eggs. She has laid two now and I was really happy with how big, already the size of Carlie's. They are weighing right at 50g right now, nearing large size to put in my selling eggs :D I think Carlie is going broody though, she is slowing down and sitting in the nest pretty ambitiously the last few days :/ My White rock just stopped, and she took her place!

Is Carlie a 2nd generation pea comb or a first generation? Her eggs are really dark! Sonny's are what I'm used to seeing in a first generation. Yes, those OE girls do like to go broody. :)

These are two of the three 1st generations I picked up from you last trip to your place, all black with puffy cheeks and silver/copper around the necks...Mesha has the third. I got one 2nd generation also that looked just like a pure FBCM...but lost her to my dog shortly after we got back. Rotten dog. Yes, Carlie's is very rich olive colored, even darker than it look in this pic really. Love it! She had the tightest pea comb, it has gotten all twisted around and big.

See how pretty it turned out :) She is the one with copper, with the Wheaten Am. Mom

Awesome Lisa!!! Pretty eggs=) Mine has been squatting, and she is very red... so I'm hoping anyday, too, I recently moved her to my mom's place, so I can get 2nd gen OE's with the MArans roo, so it may delay her a bit, we'll see!!!
