IDEAL APPLAUSE!

Yeah....the Sultans I got from them turned out to be VERY nice birds. I don't show my birds...but I'd like birds that COULD be shown (close to the breed standard).

Also, I only have ONE coop (split in two). So really, I only have room for TWO breeds (as it is right now) and if I want purebreds. However, I've got 8 different ones. Two of which are bantam breeds. I'm hoping that I can get a few coops (little ones) built NEXT summer...so I can separate everyone out that way and have 1 roo with 3 or 4 hens that way....

So I have:

Light Brahmas
GL Cochins (standards)
Buff Orpingtons (which I'll be putting in with my ducks)

In the 'bator:
4 Sultan bantams
7 Porcelain d'Uccles
13 Salmon Faverolles
15 Spitzhaubens
3 Cream Brabanters

So I'm leaning towards either Sumatras or brahmas. I had wanted some bantam sumatras, but all of their banty eggs are sold out until 2009.

And I had to cull (sell) most of my McMurray brahmas because they are had too much black in places they were not supposed to.

SOOO....???

LOL Decisions, decisions....

That's true...but I have some criteria...they have to be fairly nice (temperment-wise, I don't want any thing that leaps for my jugular every time I go in there, LOL) and cold hardy. Not to mention RARE.

I tried to hatch out some black crested Polish last year from Leon Valley, but none developed. I really want some of those Tolbunts...but I can't seem to find them anywhere....

I would say go for those Sumatras! I do see that they are sold out though.

and since Ideal is giving you the credit, I would look and see what else you would want. I was browsing and not sure what you are into but the Yokohamas are not sold out until next year yet. You might still be able to get those! Also the Mottled Houdans are pretty. I've seen them in person and they are too cute for words. Hope you get something you want. Hatching is so fun. Your making me look for Eggs too now!

So I wanted something rare that I couldn't get my hands on unless I went with this situation. I wanted Sumatras, but they are sold out. They are also sold out of all bantams until 2009.

So I have come down to crevecoeurs or houdans....

Both are crested & rare...but which are better? By better, I mean cold hardy, personable, somewhat friendly. They don't have to be excellent layers, but somewhat decent.... at least well enough to sell some of their hatching eggs
