Ideal order shipped Monday, not here Wednesday...

So far I've had 6 that died, 3 of which were completely obviously DOA, and 3 that just wouldn't eat or drink and never really rallied.

I have 5 chicks still in the ICU box and I'm almost positive that one of them is going to make it, and another one gets about a 75/25 chance (against). Three of them are peanuts, and I'm pretty sure they'll be fine.

I am very happy now. I'm sad about the 6, but 5 of them were peanuts, so even though it's bad, it's not as bad as it could have been. I think I (and they) got pretty lucky.

Thanks so much to everybody that helped me chill out during my impossibly long wait. You guys have been wonderful.

If you're still praying, please specifically include Ms. Esmerelda McGee. She's the only one that still seems to be struggling.

*sigh*

9 down so far.

1 probably on the way out.

I called Ideal about them and they said that they would be happy to reship my entire order, which I wasn't particularly thrilled about since I now have a BUNCH of random male Buff Orpingtons, who are very cute, but not such great layers from what I understand about roosterhood. I was going to have them refund my card, but then thought I could just get the credit as a gift certificate, since now all my (follower) friends want to be cool like me, but then I thought...

LONG TAILS!!!

HECK YEAH!!!

And so they are seeing if they can hook me up with a few longtails, which will be lovely and awesome.

I am going to be eating roos for the next forty years. *sigh*

I think that's the only thing that everybody on this forum seems to agree on though... 'The only thing better than chickens... is MORE chickens!'

*addicts*

Well, it's good to hear that most of them made it and that you're getting some cool, pretty ones trade for the ones that didn't make it. Where were your's shipped to? Mine were shipped yesterday so I'm hoping DH get's the call in the morning and

that they're all ok. I'd have a hard time if there are a bunch DOA. Don't forget the pics!

eta: Did they mark on the shipping recpt what they sent for peanuts?

I'm in Louisville, KY. I wouldn't think it would be that long of a trip, but apparently it was. Yes, they marked the receipt that the 'males added for warmth' were Buff Orpingtons. They're sooo cute and yellow. I heart.

I'm actually thinking that I might just see if they can send me one nice longtailed rooster and replace some of my poor dead little black australorps or silver laced wyandottes that are dearly departed.

I really, really want to go into mass (for me) egg production. I've got people lined up around the block to trade eggs for baked goods, beer, moonshine, organic produce, lawn maintenance and hopefully organic chicken feed. I had a whole plan to give my 'leftover' eggs to the people that live in the projects here too. I want lots of eggs. I think I may now only have 4 egg laying chicks. Maybe I'll get lucky and one of these little yellow puffballs will decide to be a girl. Doubtful, but I can hope.

They're awfully chirpy. Cute, but a little loud to be in my office. I don't even care though... chirping means they're still with me. Yay.

In a disgusting personal note, I was having a lemon square just now and would randomly sit it on my lap when I would type. I finished it off, then looked down and remembered that my jeans are covered with chicken poo. Yeah, I'm pretty awesome. I buy chicks that are potential sources of both meat and eggs, and what do I end up eating? The crap. Doh.

Grrrr. Out of the 26 that were in the box, I'm now down to 14, and another couple are fading fast. I'm definitely going to need more egg layers. And also, about 6 hours of cuteoverload.com.

Having a 16 hour day of dying baby chicks really takes it out of me. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure I can do this twice. Maybe I should just be content with however many layers I end up with. I don't know that I can endanger the lives of any more chicks for my desire to become a freerange organic egg magnate.

Weirdly, I don't even want to sell any. I just want to eat them, trade them, and give them away. Rawr. Today is just obviously not my day to get what I want. *sniff sniff*

Aw Kate I'm sorry

I did receive mine this morning after making a couple of phone calls. The package says they hit DIA at 5:30 pm lastnight and I didn't get a call until 9am this morning. Out of the 20 there's only 1 little Salmon Fav girl that's acting punk but the rest haven't shut up for the last couple hours. Drinking, eating, pooping, so far so good. But I did talk to Beth this morning who said call my PO and ask if they are in yet and if not then tomorrow morning for sure and even she said that wouldn't be good to not get them until tomorrow. BUT she also said that we might have to figure out another shipping route to me if it's taking too long. You might want to ask them about that if you get your replacements.

Good luck on the others babies, I hope they're doing better.
