I had an order delived to Montana April 15th.

I ordered 8 chicks and asked for no males for warmth.

I got the males for warmth, and one chick died in a couple of days. It just was too much for that one to make the trip.

But I am pleased with my 7 remaining chicks and would definately order from them again. They are feathering out nicely and healthy.

I would probably have to order later in the year to convince them not to send me the males for warmth. That was the only drag for me, because I had to cull them all.

Ideal is my favorite hatchery! They have a great selection, and their prices are reasonable. I just got an order of chicks from them last week. NO D.O.A's, but I've lost a few (4?) since then....
Their d'Uccles or Buff Laced Sebrights seem to be really weak, but their other birds are pretty healthy and gorgeous!
I have some white silkies I got from Ideal last winter....They are the best hatchery quality silkies I have ever had! Nice crests, good toes, just really pretty birds!

The feed store that I get all of my chicks from use Ideal, and all of mine are VERY healthy. I have yet to have a problem (knock on wood), so I would definitely recommend them!!

I got 17 Buff Orpingtons from Ideal last October 2007. Was supposed to be 15 pullets and 2 cockerals. They threw in an extra that was a bit on the small side and looked a little weak,( I kept him inside for 2 weeks and babied him), and he's now my #1 roo..HUGE! ALL lived and are very healthy and happy and I'm very satisfied with them. I only had one that turned out to be a roo that was supposed to be a pullet,*ended up with 4 roos total* but I gave him and another roo to a wonderful friend of mine for his son and they are thrilled with them. Taking the last extra roo to a new home this Thursday I hope. My poor girls need a break from 2 very active guys! Ideal's customer service was great and I felt like they did a good job overall.

I ordered one dozen each of fertile hatching eggs of 1.) Buff Orps 2.) Barred Rocks 3.) Black Astralorps. What I received was three dozen mixed...called them up. I was told to do whatever I wanted with those eggs and that they'll resend the order...three weeks later[sigh] I get one dozen barred rocks six black astralorps and eighteen mixed. Again this wasn't what I paid for and by now the postage was costing IDEAL what the original order was worth so I told them to forget it and maybe some future time when they "get it together" they can credit my account and deal it straight. BTW what I was originally after was Buff Orps and ended up with two roos and one hen out of all those mixed eggs! What a complete disaster!
All y'all take care!

I've ordered from them several times, I really like their selection and their customer service is pretty good. My only suggestions is that if you order a rare breed or variety, esp one thats very popular (one that most other hatcheries don't carry), order at least 5 more than you want. Last year I ordered 15 grey silkies, I only recieved around 8-10, said they were really popular and didn't have enough to fill my order. This year, I ordered 20 self blue silkies, but then changed my order to 15. I should have kept it at 20 because they only sent me 12, after making me wait more than an extra month for them. I placed my order back in Dec/Jan, delivery was supposed to be around March 6, they called me up shortly before my order was to be sent out and said they wouldn't ship them until April 9, I asked them why the delay, but they couldn't give me a reason. They did send 2 greys and 2 reds with the self blues, for warmth, as I asked for no extra males. In general, I really do prefer Ideal to other hatcheries.
