Hello, everyone! This is our first experience with a chick that is frizzled. I know the general signs of a rooster in normally feathered chickens, but when it comes to a frizzle chick, what are we looking for?

The chick is 9, almost 10 weeks old and is small. Has a small comb, no wattles, but the comb is reddening up.

It rained today and her feathers got damp, so I thought seeing them not so frizzled out might be helpful. I’m not seeing any evidence of saddle feathers I don’t think, but I also just don’t know how to tell in a frizzle.

OH! According to the hatchery photos, there would be no wattles to judge! Beard genes are inhibiting it :) I was thinking it was a bantam cochin frizzle, but green queen makes sense as to why no wattles!

I am still a little bit on the fence. 10 weeks is kinda right in the middle for me, if the bird was this red in the face at 8 weeks I'd say cockerel, but this red the face at 12 weeks and maybe developing pullet. Her comb almost looks like a single comb (think foghorn leghorn shape), if so it's very small and that'd put one more point in pullet for me. When in doubt, nothing SCREAMS cockerel so hang onto them ;D

Cute! I am going to guess girl, but I would wait a few more weeks to be sure.

She’s a green Queen bantam. And that’s encouraging to hear! She’s so much fun, we would be bummed if she was a rooster and we had to rehome her.
I almost almost got a couple of these earlier this year! She definitely looks like a cross between their frizzle mottled cochin bantam and a bantam egger.
