Identifying Quail Chicks

I've given up naming their colors. Too many variations, too many parts of the gene that change. I'm just happy when they all get along!
Yes it is confusing! Do you mean that coturnix genetics and mutations never get less murky than they are right now? :hit

The above thread is great for coturnix chick ID pics. On the other hand, it suggests that my two reds are scarlett and not rosetta. The plot thickens. Or it's just a crap shoot all around lol

Clearly I need to read up on the roux gene again for the 24th time... it's just not sinking in at all~ so both tibetan and scarlett are rosetta? Or both tibetan and rosetta are scarletts? Ahhhhh😫

Now I get it. Or maybe I'm getting close.

Roux dilute is a diluter gene that can be applied to either Tibetan or Rosetta (Extended Brown base birds). Which, if applied, results in a Scarlett, or a Red Range, respectively. So the question is, are my two darker chicks:

a) Rosetta (1 copy EB w/ no visible roux)
b) Tibetan (2 copies EB w/ no visible roux)
c) Scarlett (Rosetta with the roux diluter)
d) Red Range (Tibetan with the roux diluter)

Rosetta w/ Roux Dilute is known as the following:
  • Scarlett

It's interesting that their head colors don't change yet, so to contrast their newborn fuzz colors with their emerging feather colors, for the most part you can just compare their bodies to their heads :thumbsup
