If you could create a breed or a variety of a breed, what would you make?

I'd like to breed my Red Star hen with Lavender Orpington Rooster. I'd name it a Lavender star. Hopefully I'd get a hen that lays like a Red Star, but has the beautiful feathers of Lavender Orpington.

I have successfully crossed some of my R.I. Reds with a Swedish Flower Hen Rooster. They are vibrant, very tame and calm, and certainly will be great egg layers. At 5 weeks old, they are too young to see what the final product will look like. They have the Swedish "Flowers" on the tips of the feathers. Other than that, they look like R.I. Reds. Very nice birds so far. I have ten of them, plus my Swedish Chicks. It was just an experiment since I have 4 R.I. Reds. Some of my Swedes resemble little Penguins! Such fun. There are more in the incubator.

I agree that there are oodles of wonderful breeds worth working with. In my dream world, Marans would be better layers. They're great meat birds already, just not good layers compared to the better dual purpose breeds.

I would like more "quackless" breeds of duck as long as we are blue-skying.

If fantasy-world is ok; I'd want fertile offspring from Muscovies and Mallard-type ducks. Like a silent Indian Runner!

California Greys seem like they might fit the bill, but I can't find a single breeder or even hatchery with them!

Might be a few that will look like they have real ba hair days but they do say to get an omelette right you got to break a few eggs.
